Attention Active Rain members:

Please be on the lookout for this man!

             Ray Slaybaugh

Bear Wallow Trail

I am to call the National Forest Service, National Guard, maybe even the Nation Association of Realtors if he does not surface by Sunday evening.  He was last seen leaving forest service road 25, approximately 5 miles south of Hannigan Meadow near Springerville, AZ.  It is believed that he and a companion intend to complete a 4 day backpacking expedition, which runs the length of Bear Wallow Trail.  Repeat, BEAR WALLOW TRAIL.

Deeming this the perfect opportunity to run across one of the numerous hungry black bear that inhabit the region just prior to winter hibernation, this adventurous duo blazed trail on Tuesday morning armed with bear spray, winning smiles and a few jokes.  If the pair is unfortunate, and avoids confrontation with a bear that is eagerly applying a winter fat suit, there is still hope.  There is always the chance of wolves.

Just who is this crazed outdoorsman?

Some nutty survivalist?

A naturalist?

Hippy?

No.  This is my partner.

My father, Ray Slaybaugh.

He has been a member of Active Rain for a few months now, but has not found the time to blog.  There is one lonely little post in his blogroll.  I believe it has three complete sentences!  This is a travesty.  Having been licensed in AZ since 1974, he has more Real Estate knowledge in his pinky than I have in my entire hand/wrist region.  He's been through 3 different brutal down markets, and thrived.  Besides, he really is one of the good guys.  I will be pressuring him to become a regular contributor upon his return from the wild, so please visit his lonely little post to make sure that a warm welcome awaits his return: http://activerain.com/blogsview/161408/GUESS-WHO-S-BUYING

If found wandering around the side of the highway muttering "Big bear.  Big bear chase me," please return to his office at: 10607 N. Hayden Rd #100, Scottsdale, AZ 85260.  Give coffee and play the blues immediately.

Paul - You are one funny guy! Ever consider writing for sitcoms?  I will be sure to stop by your fathers post. We sure could learn a lot from a veteran like your Dad. Maybe upon his return he can blog about bears in the wild Arizona mountains!!  We do have mountains here folks!! Fun post.

By the way, Jason, I am totally stumped on Block's contest.  I sat down to write that post, and came up with this one instead.  Maybe I should just fashion one out of you teaching me how to use my medulla oblongata to better serve my clients?

Thank you Candace.  I must confess that your introduction of your brother gave me the idea.  That was a great trend that you started.  I appreciate you looking in on my dad's post.  He can certainly use your HTML tutorial that I have bookmarked!

Paul - I am a dad. Let me tell you something young man. There is not a bear big enough to deal with a determined father. Of course, I am assuming he is armed and has rapid transportation nearby. I shall check his post and apply a little pressure to share here. We old farts need one another. In a crowd, we can always mock the young and pontificate about how it was when we were young.

I appreciate it, John.

I'm a dad as well, and you can bet that I share your sentiment.  I can move mountains when motivated.  If my father happens to run into said bear, you can bet that he'll walk away with a new listing.  Got any buyers for a 2 bed /0 bath cave?

Hi Paul a very cleaver and and creative post. I hope it works to motivate your Dad to write more. Experince is always useful in the blogging genre. You sound like you have a great relationship. I will stop over and say hi and maybe try to inspire the Bearless Hunter to return to tracking humans wanting to sell and write about it.

This is awesome.  I think I saw him on Pinnacle Peak trail.  He was carrying a big gulp from seven eleven and had white zinc oxide on his nose to keep from getting sun burned.

So funny.   You guys probably laugh all the time.    What a great story that you followed his footsteps into real estate business.      I will check his blog.

Paul, does Active Rain really have enough room for two smart good looking Scottsdale Slaybaughs?  Dad looks like he could fight off a Grizzlie with his bare hands!

Paul, No wonder your dad hasn't found the time to blog, he is always out having fun. I remember his one and only post and I remember commenting there. That won't stop me from stopping back by to rattle his door knob. Just think, if he does indeed have a chance to bare-handedly wrestle a bear, a wolf, a coyote, a javalina, a few jackrabbits or even a road runner or two he should have plenty of fodder for the grist mill. If he simply captures images of our awesome Arizona scenery (including to-die-for sunsets) then he need only write less than half as many words as I've used here to be included in the 50 word minimum for validation of posting a spectacular blog.

Thank you William.  We have as close a relationship as a father and son can have.  As for tracking those humans, he likes to let his partner handle that when possible while he goes and plays Grizzly Adams!  I appreciate you dropping in on his blog.

Spoken like a native, Chris!  It's safe to say that the bear maulings in Pinnacle Peak are limited, though ;)  Of course, the zinc oxide is always a good idea here.  The worst sunburn I've ever gotten was up north in the White Mountains ... ice fishing.  Honest to God, my nose was purple.

There's always room for another Slaybaugh, Brian!  We've got this community surrounded!  Back in the day, he would only have needed his left arm to subdue the bears.  He's in his college and high school halls of fame for wrestling, and led a recon unit as an Army Ranger in Vietnam.  Bears do not want any part of him, trust me.

If only he had a camera, Yvonne.  Unfortunately, he packs as ultrlight as possible, so a camera was not an option (unless he picked up a light disposable).  I am just sick that I missed this trip.  I was also supposed to accompany him on an excursion to the Boundary Waters which border Minn. and Canada last year.  Alas, business and the little ones had other plans for me.  I would be much obliged if you did buzz his tower again to solicit his participation around here.  I think you guys will all get a kick out of him.

Absolutely, Dawn!  We actually work independently on many things.  He has his clients, I have mine, and we have a few mutual clients.  We do farm the planned community of McCormick Ranch in Scottsdale together because we both have ties there, and our advertising bucks go a lot further.  Regardless, all of his deals seem to hit panic mode as soon as he hits the trail.  The phone just doesn't stop ringing with calls like, "Hi Paul, your father sold us a house 12 years ago, and the plumbing is really giving us trouble lately ..."

Thanks for dropping in to comment, Dawn.

I'll probably need that shoulder to cry on before he makes it back, Jennifer.  Nothing like babysitting another agent's deals while they are out of town.  Murphy's Law applies here.  Thanks for helping with the welcome wagon.  You'll like the old guy.

PAUL:  Tell Ray that you are going to look for a new partner if he doesn't start sharing his vast knowledge with the AR community.  You might also that you've been eyeballing a shiny new daddy on ebay, and that you'll not be outbid for new blogging daddy!

If shiny new blogging daddy comes equipped with fully functional "pat on the back" option and several key phrases (including, but not limited to: You are the best blogging son that a blogging father could ever have.), that's as good as done, Adam.  Nothing like new father smell!

Paul - I guess it's my Paul Saturday. I read your posts, wrote about you in mine, and now again...

Sorry, you got stumped on the contest. It was not Brian's fault. Blame it on me - I don't mind. I am sure if you wrote about whatever it is you were saying to Jason, it would've been great. I'll visit your dad's blog to make it a Slaybaugh Saturday.

Paul, I just really started on AR yesterday.  One of the first things I read was your post on "AR dating"  I wanted to make sure I was on the right site!  Anyway, after I stopped laughing, I jumped into my blog.  I figured that this was to be a fun adventure.  Thanks for the welcome you gave without knowing!

Off to check out your dad's blog.

Now that's funny, Elaine!  I'm sure you were thinking what the heck is this place?  Active Rain is a great place with room for blogging about serious Real Estate issues, marketing listings, and just some fun off-the-clock shop talk.  Welcome aboard and have fun with your blog.  Write what you want to write and you'll find success.  I look forward to what you have to say.

Thanks for stopping by to read both posts, and for looking in on my father's as well.

Paul, Where's your Dad?  No response or update on his blog.  Kind of figured he'd have something to say to you.  You know, we're done with the firefighters and rescue workers here where I live near Malibu (for now, anyway!).  I can send them over to the Great Big Forest of Bears.  Just let me know.

Oh, he's back alright, Elaine.  I know he started to reply to the welcome messages on his blog, only to have inadvertently emailed many of his greeters rather than posting comments.  He's still new at this, so have held off on the warning for unsolicited email spam so far!  I'll make sure he visits this thread to announce his safe return.  Thanks for looking in on him, Elaine!
