Grub is one of my favorite restaurants in Los Angeles, but it’s so off the beaten path, that I forget about it a lot. Then, when I end up back there again...it’s deja vu all over again! Their mantra...”it feels like home” is right on. The restaurant is known for their "California Comfort Food."
"Hey Mom, can you make me something to eat?!"
Grub is tucked away in a charming old 1920's bungalow in the post-production area of Hollywood, among the photo imaging businesses, prop houses and other industrial buildings that house many different film and video editing companies. It’s enclosed behind a wall and hedges, so it’s easy to miss. They're open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a full wine and beer menu.
But, it’s not so easy to miss that there wasn’t a 20 minute wait for brunch this past Sunday! Dang! Looks like a few other people remembered it’s there! The food is nothing short of extraordinary. The outdoor patio is charming and it was packed this past Sunday for brunch...quite possibly their best meal. They’ve even been singled out for “Best Brunch in LA” awards.
The restaurant is run by Betty Fraser and Denise DeCarlo, who also run the popular “As You Like It” catering company for the past 12+ years. The “Grub Girls,” as they call themselves also can be seen on television, including NBC’s “Recipe TV,” on Bravo’s “Top Chef” and on the Today show.
If you haven't been there yet...get there! And if you have, well, then you already know and I'll see you there next Sunday.
"Mom...is that grilled cheese sandwich ready yet....?"
