My step son Beau & his wife moved in a nice apartment just before having their first baby in March. It was shortly thereafter, I was over visiting & I said to Beau, "I think you have rats in your ceiling". He said really? I said yes, I think the nest is right there over the medallion for the light. Well, sure enough in a few days there were other signs. The landlord did call a company to come out & we spent a week with traps while they were away on vacation with the baby, but there are "still" more rats.
There were at least 12-15 traps in their small apartment & we waited a week & no signs that they had returned, but no one was sleeping there at night....not that it matter really, as the one I saw come out while they were there was in broad daylight, with two exterminators & myself right there. He didn't even try to scurry along! He stood there looking at me & then when I called the guy that was in the other room, he still had time to scoop him up?!
I now have to take another day & go up & help let in the exterminator & deal with the Landlord. The Landlord that I have spent about 8 phone calls & one text to try to get him respond to my messages. He has been a little less friendly this time & a bit gruff about it, which has been offensive. I won't go into the details or show the photos, as I don't want to ruin your morning coffee, (or dinner if it is late reading, but it is disgusting...& to say the least a health hazard. I am especially concerned with the baby. He did offer if they want to be let out of their lease, and my son doesn't really want to have to go through moving again in such a short time, but is now considering. The key is getting his deposits back as well, so they are able to move forward on another location.
They even blocked another vacant apartment supposedly to catch these rats & sprayed foam in the a/c closet, & they are back?!! It is as if it hardly slowed them down. Does anyone know of any other more successful methods, or what would you suggest for my son?
I am at my wits end & the Landlord is with me as well.... :( However, with the situation & my concern with the baby being exposed...I am at the point of calling the Health Department, but want to make sure his lease interest is satisfied & deposits returned. The whole building is infested. What is the thing to do?? It is a very nice apartment by New River & Las Olas Blvd. The Landlord happens to be a local Broker....and I am sure it is costing him a fortune. Disease it the largest concern especially with my 6 month old grandson. His other neighbors have had issues as well. I feel the building needs to be tented, but then worry about them decaying in the walls, maggots, etc.. They also would have to move out during this period. It seems simpler with all the drama to just move to a new location.... :( It is a nice little apartment for their starter. This apartment is also by a very, very, nice residential community that they can walk with the baby. Very sad. I am looking for suggestions if anyone has any?? Thank you!
Okay, that is the start of my day today between 10am-12pm. I am trying to get past the Landlord's attitude, that also makes me sad as a Broker. I am trying to catch flies with honey, but after 6 days of trying to contact him while working & a gruff response, it is difficult.
