I have to find time, every few months, to visit the Phoenix Art Museum. There are a few exhibits I need to spend time with. They do wonderful things for parts of me that sometimes get ignored in the day-to-day stuff.
My absolute, all-time, favorite is the permanent exhibit "You Who are Getting Obliterated by a Dancing Swarm of Fireflies" by Yayoi Kusama, 2005.
It is a small room, with mirrored walls and floor; strings of tiny led lights strung on tiny wires, like monofiliment lines. There are thousands (it seems) of these very tiny lights. They fade in and out and change colors and are reflected into infinity.
The sensation is like being suspended in the universe. I feel my spirit expand. It is a sort of out of body experience. Walking among the stars...
The museum staff allows three people at a time to enter, if I can find a time when there are no people waiting, sitting on the floor in the center is an incredible experience.
I frequently drag unsuspecting friends, family, associates or clients to share the experience. If I have missed you, take yourself. It may be your only chance to walk among the stars and I don't want you to miss it.
I can sit for long and long watching Jennifer Steincamp's tree change seasons, as its leaves are blown by the winds.
There are other wonderous exhibits to be seen, inside the rambling museum and outside on the fabulous grounds.
Go. See. Feel. You will never regret it!
