If you currently live in or ever have lived in Eerie County, Ohio then the Ohio Department of Commerce Director David Goodman urges residents to join in the 2011 Unclaimed Funds Treasure Hunt by checking the Sandusky Register on Tuesday.
By looking through the newspaper advertisement, readers can find out if they are entitled to unclaimed funds turned over to the Ohio Division of Unclaimed Funds in the past year.
This is money that is called unclaimed funds and is money or the rights to money that have been dormant or forgotten. This money could come from, but not limited to any of the sources of unclaimed property listed below:
Checking accounts, Savings accounts, Traveler's checks, Safety deposit boxes, Stocks, Trust distributions, Uncashed money orders, Mineral royalty payments, Outstanding payroll checks, Bonds, Refunds, Uncashed checks, Gift certificates, Life insurance policies, Annuities, Certificates of deposits, Gift Cards and Utility security deposits.
“Who couldn’t use a little extra money?” said Director Goodman. “I hope that residents of Erie County will take a couple of minutes to check to see if you, your family or your friends have unclaimed funds. We are committed to returning funds to their rightful owners.”
In Fiscal Year 2011, the Division paid 46,222 claims worth more than $60.9 million. The average claim was for $1,318.
The Erie County advertisement will include 1,113 unclaimed funds accounts worth more than $337,022. The advertised accounts, each valued at $50 or more, were turned over to the Division within the past year for individuals whose last known address was in Erie County. The advertised names will appear in alphabetical order by the owner’s last known city and then in alphabetical order by the owner’s last name.
The majority of the funds that our company finds are funds that are not usually listed on any type of website.
