Vegas Bob explains with Photographs & Stats just how BIG Redwood Trees can get

Founders Tree in Founders Grove - Northern California 9-16-2011

Founders Tree is located in Founders Grove along the Avenue of Giants in Northern California and is one of the bigger Redwood Trees, but not the biggest.

Founders Tree was very difficult for Vegas Bob to photograph because of it's height, but I did in the photo (below) these paragraphs. If you look real close you can see this sign in the photo above and below at the bottom of the photo. VB had to use a (wide-angle) lens that is borderline fish-eye if you know about camera lenes. I also had to turn my camera around vertically in order to fit the whole tree in the frame.

Many of these Redwood Trees that I viewed for 3 days are so HUGE that a person has to have special lens on their camera or step back so far that the trees look small. Here are the bottoms of some other Redwoods with a person standing by them.

VB will be sharing more photos of the Redwoods I viewed on my trip and some very interesting stats on how HUGE and fascinating these "Living Creatures" are. I will also be sharing some video of these GIANTS next week.

If a one of those big guys falls and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?

=) Greetings from S. Florida and thanks for sharing!

Hi Vegas Bob - Redwoods are such tall majestic trees.  Was the area you were in anywhere near the Tall Trees Redwood Grove where the Endor scene for Star Wars: Return of the Jedi was filmed?

Hello every one and YES these trees are very "Majestic" and I like that word, maybe I will use it in my next title and post.

And Marc at comment #6 ... YES I did go to the Grove of Redwoods where the Star Wars film was made. What is strange about this is I have been camping there off & on for about 15 years, only to find out recently that they shot that scene there. I will post a special blog about this Marc, thanks for the tip because I did go there several days ago with some new photos.

VB ;o)

VB, that is indeed a mighty tall tree, ah the age old question in photography on how to add depth perception?  Luckily you had a hiker in the area to provide that....never been to the redwoods, hope to some day soon.

Beautiful!  Sad, but I rememeber seeing photos of Redwoods (early 1900's) with trunks twice those size being cut down for lumber :(
