Why ALL your blog posts should be distributed to groups

GROUPS??  NAME IT RIGHT AND MORE MEMBERS WILL JOIN.

If only the group names would always reflect the theme of the group.  Sadly, I may join a Groupsgroup when invited only to have a name in my groups list that is so unrelated to the theme of the group that I never add an article.

Regularly I go through my groups list and delete, mostly when I can't identify the purpose of the group by name.

Why do members form groups and then give it an obscure or "cute" title?

In fact, why do member write fabulous articles and then title them with obscure or unrelated "cute" titles?

All that work and no one is reading.

A few days ago I wrote a blog post titled:  "Get More Exposure for Your listings by posting in groups."   That post didn't receive a lot of comments, though it apparently did get noticed by a lot of Active Rainers because I have gotten some emails about it and even one phone call.

It seems that that many people get frustrated that although Distribute all of your posts to groupsActive Rain has provided a link at the top of each page to a list of all of the groups, it is very time consuming looking through the list because it is neither alphabetized nor categorized, so many just don't take the time to find groups that they might like.

If you were to click on the "More About Me" link under my photo (or the photo of any Active Rain member), it will take you to my profile page.  In the left sidebar you will see a link to Groups, and if you click on that you'll see all of the groups I have joined.  I continue to join more, both for the purpose of posting to them and simply because I enjoy reading several posts in a row sometimes in a certain subject, and Groups self-organize them.

Distribute all of your posts to groupsHow did I find so many groups to join? By doing just what I explained to you.  When I find a blogger I enjoy and come back to over and over, I look to see what groups they have joined and where they have posted.  I have found some wonderful groups that I might never have known about.

When you read a post and click on the Comments link, you will see that AR shows you which groups that writer distributed that article to.  Click on any one of them to go to that group, and in the left sidebar will be a "join this group" button.  Click it and you are a member.  That group will now appear in your Groups list.

Now when you write a post and you are filling out all of the information below it before posting, you can add your post to up to 5 of the groups you have joined.

Caveat:  When you join a group, read the paragraph Distribute all of your posts to groupsthat explains the purpose of that group.  If those instructions tell you that only posts about family fun in a certain county (an example I just invented), don't post a listing there or something totally off topic, or you will not get the reaction you wish.

If you post in an inappropriate group, you may get your post deleted from that group by its administrator, or it might just get you some unpleasant comments.  There are so many great groups from which to choose, that I'm sure you will find the perfect groups for each of your posts.

Distribute all of your posts to groupsIf your post is worth writing, it is certainly worth reading, so post to groups and get it read by more people.  As more folks discover your blog, you will get more subscribers and regular readers.  From that will come clients, referrals, and best of all: new AR friends.

Since I have gotten clients directly from consumers who have read my blog, and referrals from Active Rainers who have read my posts, I believe that having my posts and/or links to them appear in a number of places does substantially increase my business.

And don't forget to click on "like" to get it posted on your facebook page, and on the Tweet, LinkedIn and +1 buttons to distribute it even further to your other social media accounts.  Those buttons are at the top of each of your posts.  This will help get your blog read by more consumers, who will come back to read future posts as well.

I hope this helps, and if you have any questions, please post them in your comments so that I can respond here and share the answer with everyone.

Happy blogging!

They have groups on this site?  Who knew!

Wow, I will have to do some checking around!

And sometimes I come up with cute titles, and they get read...     ;>)

Lenn, I get very frustrated with finding groups, so I rarely join any more than I am in already. And... I have asked to no avail if they will put a short blurb of what the group is about in our list, so that we can tell what the group is about, what posts are not allowed, whatever.

But that is not on the list I guess, so I just keep posting to the same groups, LOL. I could clean my list out to about.... 10 max. Not because I don't like them, but because I don't remember what you can and cannot post, LOL.

Lenn, Thank you for reblogging. I often wonder why people write posts with unrelated titles.

Jay.  I should open a group for home inspectors.  Goodness knows I subscribe to enough of them.  Later.  I'm on my way to the range.

Andrea.  Indeed.  Groups can be frustrating.

Gita.  So do I.

Lenn -
I agree with you about the groups needing to state purpose. Sometimes, even tho' a description is there, it is difficult to understand when the description shows up in EMBED CODE!
Have a happy day -

I have a SHOE theory that now applies to my ActiveRain GROUPS theory - Like my shoes, I can't buy NEW until I give my old to my sister - I can't join a NEREW group until I remove an older one I no longer post to.

Groups? I wish I could post in more than 5 groups. I've noticed lately because of so many posts in the big groups, if you post in the morning the post in no longer visible by the evening or next day unless it's featured because it moves really fast. The blog roll only goes to about 15 pages of posts.

I'm kidding Lenn.  I belong to four home inspector groups.

Lynn.  Agreed.  This is why I don't always post to the ones to which I subscribe and purge the list regularly.

Wallace.  I subscribe to that practice.

Mitchell.  Goodness.  I never remember to follow up.  I just post.

Jay.  I figured that.

Dave.  HA!  I don't even go there.  I may join a group if invited and they provide a link.  Not about to try to navigate that list.
