Pay It Forward.......With a Big Bag of Books.....to Senior Assisted Living Residents in Rockwall

I love books!  My love for books has resulted in my home becoming over run with stacks of books throughout my life.  Every real cleaning and de-cluttering has resulted in large bags of books needing to find a new home.

I finally have the perfect answer for what to do with all my beloved books after I have read them.  I took a big bag to a Rockwall Assisted Living Center for their library and the management loved it and I know the residents will also.  My parents lived in assisted living for several years and I know that they enjoyed being able to go to the center library and have a really nice selection of books.  Books are expensive to buy and assisted living residents usually do not have extra money in their budget to buy books.

Donating books to senior centers is not a new idea as others in ActiveRain have done the same thing....well...I always learn from the best, thanks ActiveRain members for the idea!  I loved paying it forward by donating my books!

Richard - I once gave my grand daughter several huge boxes of books and let her take them to Half Price Books to sell.  She did not get enough money to pay for her gas to take them there and we both agreed we would rather give them away in the future.   Mine are now earmarked to continue going to a senior center of some sort.  Have a great day!

Richie - another great idea!  I never thought about taking something like lemons.  I do, at times, purchase a box of fruit that I can not use before it goes bad.  What a great idea to drop by what I can't use.  Have a great Sunday!

Conrad - don't be sad!  The important thing is to just continue to read and we all know that you are a reader!  Thanks for stopping by this morning.

Barbara: This is a wonderful way to pay it forward and I know those in assisted living will love the "new" books they can now read.

Barbara - great way to pay it forward and give your books to others who will truly enjoy reading them. I too love my books and won't throw them away, but this is a great idea. Maybe there's something in our town like this because it's time I got rid of some too. I still have my collage books! Can't part with the literature - but somethings gotta give - lol! Nice job!

Barbara - i never thought of that. While I don't necessarily have a lot of books I do subscribe to assorted magazines. I have been taking them to the hospital for use in the patient waiting rooms as I noticed the magazines that were there were 5-6 years old. There are so many places we can give where people really appreciate even the littlest of things.

Will - thanks, I like this better than selling them for almost nothing to a book store, plus, they will be useful to more people.

Kristine -0 I know what you mean - it is hard to get rid of some books, but I have to do it periodically or I will be living in a library!

Linda - it is a great idea to leave magazines at a hospital.  People are always needing something to do while waiting.  I will remember to do this with my magazines.  Thanks for the mention of it.

Hi Barbara, this is a fantastic idea.  The senior center in Rockwall is so lucky to have you in the area.  I now know what I will do with our many books.  Nice post and thank you for sharing this great idea.

What a great idea, I always am at a lose with what to do with books.  I will be calling the local assisted living to see if they take donations.

Senior Centers can often use the books, old DVDs and even VHS tapes.  So, think about them when you are cleaning house!

Norma - I do like know that the books will provide pleasure for not one or two people, but will be in the library for many to enjoy.  This makes the price of a book a great buy for me!
