Neutralizing Wall Colors with Home Staging

By
Home Stager with Synergy Staging ~ specializing in vacant home staging

As home stagers we often get to work with owners to prepare their homes for sale. Many times this includes a color consultation to ensure that the paint color is pleasing to potential buyers and works with the architecture and feel of the home. However, sometimes we don’t get the benefit of a consultation and must work with the house as it is, especially when budgets are tight.

Here is a wonderful house in Oregon City overlooking Beaver Lake that we recently staged with just such a color issue. The walls were overwhelming with a gray/green that didn’t feel warm and inviting. Unfortunately this color was seemingly everywhere! We had no choice but to make it work.

Working in a room with darker colors, especially in Oregon where the sky is often overcast, the importance of light furnishings and decor is essential. In this house the ceilings soared almost 20 feet so it was vital to neutralize the color with the staging.

Here’s some pictures of the results.

You did a great job with those wall colors. Your choices of fabric colours and a variety of different textures allow this home to be showcased to its finest.

HI David, I see what you mean about introducing light colours to work with your wall colours and overcast skies. It definitely looks upbeat. Very sophisticated furniture selection as well. Beautiful work as usual.

hi David ~ You guys did a great job selecting the right pieces for this home.  The mirror above the fireplace is perfect scale for the space and really highlights those tall ceilings.  I love those dark hardwood floors (but they can be a bear to keep clean!)

Wendy ~ Sometimes going into a space like this can be a challenge, but it's so rewarding to see it all pull together.

Michelle ~ Oregon skies must be taken into consideration when painting since the outside is typically not as bright as other places and you don't want the walls to just blend with the sky. That's when staging really helps make a space feel alive. Thanks for your feedback.

Maureen ~ We just knew we wanted to put that large mirror above the fireplace to throw some more light around, but it was a little dicey hanging it almost 16 feet high! And yes, those floors are nice to look at, but we had to swiffer alot before we left since every little speck shows!

Kathy ~ Thanks! Making the walls work was the biggest challenge. Well, and also the living room layout since it was so open, but that finally came together!

Kathy ~ I always appreciate your feedback and thanks for the feature. We had to acquire some new inventory for this house in order to pull everything together. Glad you like it.

Hello David, Very nice. Loved the pictures and appreciate you sharing.  Always nice to see the pictures of other stagers and their work.  I am also a Realtor and took a client to see a home and I have no words to describe this one home we viewed.  Not one color in the house was neutral. Every room was a different bright color.  It was so hard to show the home because we couldn't get over the colors.  Thought for a minute I had went to the circus. I am going to call the listing agent and recommend the seller to call me if they are truely wanting to sell.

Thanks again for sharing the photos.

Lisa

David....your soooo right with the awkard layout in the Living Room I had meant to mention what a GREAT solution you had come up with and that spotlights why staging was so important for this home.  Most buyers would have been afraid of it...."How do I arrange furniture in this big open space?" is what they would have thought!!

Lisa ~ It's amazing what seem people consider show ready. There is simply too much inventory on the market for any Seller or Realtor to get away with that.

Kathy ~ Large rooms can be overwhelming for buyers, especially when they are empty. That is just one more value that staging adds to marketing of a house.

Barb ~ Thank you.

David-You really did a wonderful job-as always. The furniture and furnishings really compliment the walls and floors. I love the pops of burnt orange with the pillows, etc. ( a favorite of mine).
