If you were in the Confederate Army you fought in the 1st Battle of Manassas on July 21, 1862 and the 2nd Battle of Manassas from August 28, 1862 to August 30, 1862.

However, if you fought in the Union Army these were the Battles of Bull Run.  The Confederacy named battles after nearby towns while the Union forces named the battles after nearby bodies of water.

1st Manassas was the first major battle of the Civil War.  In either case, the Confederacy won both battles, but the second battle was the most decisive.  The notable names leading the Confederate forces during 2nd Manassas were Lee, Longstreet and Jackson (Stonewall).

The picture at the left is of Battery Heights - it has an awesome collection of Civil War artilllery pieces.

Manassas Battlefield National Park is a beautiful and informative stop on your visit to Northern Virginia and Prince William County.  There are park rangers, markers and monuments throughout the park to educate you as to the events of these two battles between two opposing American forces.
