Is anyone using email services for marketing anymore?

With the CAN SPAM Act and seemingly draconian measures against electronic advertising I suspect that the returns for prospecting in this fashion may be rapidly deminishing for raw email solisitations.  Instead, the focus has shifted to optimization of one's web presence for search engines and cooperative linking.  The goal of which would be to be more likely to appear on the first or second page of an organic search.  If any of you are using email blasts or similar solution, what is your take?

I don't agree.  The truth is that email continues to grow as a very effective advertising method in many industries.  I think it is great that their are rules that businesses (like ourselves) must follow in reagrds to this (i.e. allowing the option to unsubscribe, etc.).

We use iContact and it works GREAT.  We send out a weekly e-newsletter called HouseBlend and it is sent using iContact.  We have never had any problem with CAN SPAM Act and we have been doing this for over a year.

We use email to keep in touch with our clients past, present and future.  It is a good mechanism for communication, so long as it is used properly.

I email selected posts to buyer and seller prospects who have given me their e-mail addresses. Sometimes that's over 600 at a time.

I use email for newsletters and other white sheet articles but it's all strictly by permission marketing. It works for me.

I use some email marketing to existing and prospective clients, but I'm not consistent with my campaigns. No one ever gets inundated with emails from me like we all do from typical spam. I have switched gears to optimizing my web presence however because I think that is where most new business will come from other than word-of-mouth advertising.

I use constant contact.  It has easy to find opt out ability.  What is annoying me is that I have been doing this for almost a year and I have had only two spam reports from people who signed themselves up. I never added them manually. I find that interesting and wonder if they are competitors that are trying to get me in trouble :(

Renee - That is why I don't like CC.  There is no Innocent with them.  Spam report means you are guility.  End of story.  They once stopped a reminder email on one of my auctions.  It was going out on a Friday for a Saturday auction.  They had suspended my subsciption without telling me pending  talking with me.  Of course, they didn't have anyone that could talk to me until Monday.
