For at least two years now, I have been aware of how things were not good and going to get dicey. My trusted circle of friends said to me, batten down your hatches, prepare for the worse because things are going to get bad...really bad. No one likes to go around saying that and people like hearing it even less BUT...

WHAT IF IT IS TRUE?

At some point, when you accept that things are not through adjusting and recovering from the enormous amount of debt leveraging that was done from 2001 to 2007 to the tune of several trillion dollars, you then start to think how to survive this huge bubble bursting of which the likes haven't been seen since the thirties...1930's

GIANT PTERODACTYL COMING IN FOR A LANDING

This is an epic financial meltdown that is no respecter of persons and has an agenda of its own. Be weary of anyone preaching a quick fix because that is really snake oil in disguise. We are paying for runaway rampant unregulated and encouraged Pseudo prosperity that if it took chicken form, there is no roost big enough to hold it when it lands. This is one mean chicken flying home!

THE MESSENGER AND THE MESSAGE

I am sorry to be the harbinger of bad news. Don't harm the messenger but instead heed the message and position your self for the long haul. To some, this simply means downsizing, cutting back, and to many, starting over. Our thinking and beliefs have to change if we are to get through this and to the upside of the next cycle

FAMILIES MOVING IN TOGETHER

Families moving in together are no longer looked down on as needy for anyone, but mandatory for everyone. I can remember when three generations occupied the same home and if that comes back in vogue, nothing but good can become of it for all. Everyone chips in and life can be very good too

SHOP SMART

Learn to shop smartly. I have no shame in sharing that I lived off rice and beans for years fixed in creative ways by my wife who would be happy living under a tree with me. Add some onions, bread, a little pepper and you have eaten well. Combine this with rice and it is a full and complete nutritious meal too

IT'S NOT THE BEST NEWS LOCALLY

In my neck of the woods, recorded unemployment is at 14% which means it is really 20%. They are still laying off too. City, state (near bankrupt) and federal are letting people go. We are not half way through on this economic day of reckoning storm is what some are saying.

HOUSE INSURANCE PREMIUMS

I had an argument one day with an insurance agent over premiums. If houses have gone down 30-60% in value and if the county assessor has agreed, then rates to insure properties that are now valued less should produce lower premiums. Costs to replace or repair are at record lows. No No No says the agent. The fact is, that whole industry would crash if less money was collected. What a mess

CUT BACK AND ADAPT

It is being forecasted that consumer spending, hiring, and growth will not be robust for years to come. The government can do no more to stimulate either unless a National Emergency is declared. Other than that, start thinking long term cutting back NOW until things bottom out. Remember that we are not the first to brave adversity nor the last. Perhaps it is our time to set the example for others
