~ Sonoma Adult 55+ Communities - Temelec, Chantarelle, Creekside Village ~
Baby Boomers who want retirement homes or second homes in Sonoma are discovering one of Sonoma's best kept secrets. It's really three secrets in one---three little known adjacent residential communities built for residents 55 years and older. The area is generally known as Temelec and it lies to the southwest of the city of Sonoma, conveniently located for quick access to town. It's also one of the best locations in Sonoma Valley for relatively easy travel in and out of Marin County, San Francisco the East Bay Area and Petaluma.
Temelec and it's neighboring 55+ communities of Chantarelle and Creekside Village deserve serious consideration by anyone looking for a Sonoma home priced under $400,000 or $500,000. You can own homes in these communities even if you are under 55 as long as at least one resident who lives there is 55 so they are attractive Sonoma investment properties, too.
The first homes in Temelec were built in 1965. A second phase of Temelec was built in the mid-19070s. These are classic single story ranch-style homes on public utilities. They come in in a variety of sizes ranging from 1000 square feet with 2 bedrooms and 1bathroom up to 1550 square feet with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. They are gaining popularity both as great values and because they are relatively easy to update due to solid mid-century construction and design.
Immediately to the south of Temelec, built in the mid-1980s, is the development known as Chantarelle. Homes in Chantarelle have a traditional look and are generally larger than those you'll find in Temelec or Creekside. There are both single level and two story models with living areas of between 1300 and about 1900 square feet. Some homes in Chantarelle have 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms and a loft/office space.
The last and most recent development adjacent to Temelec is Creekside Village. Most of these homes were built in the mid-to-late '80s and some as late as 1990. This subdivision has the most contemporary feel with cathedral ceilings, open floor plans, and custom oversized windows. All homes in Creekside are single level. Many have private front and rear gardens. Creekside Village homes run from 1250 to about 2000 square feet, with many offering about 1500.
