Gelato comes to Los Feliz Village!
Yesterday I highlighted the new Paradis ice cream store, imported from Denmark, serving ice cream that is made fresh every day, with all natural ingredients...and less fat. Today, we’re going to ignore the low fat thing, and hustle on in to Gelato Bar...and it will be worth it!
Gelato Bar arrived in Los Feliz Village located at 1936 Hillhurst Ave. last May, just in time for the summer. I’d discovered their other gelateria, Gelato Bar & Espresso Caffe, in Studio City earlier this year...and very quickly become addicted to the pistachio (I’ve never tasted pistachio like this before...in my life!). Their flavors are very sophisticated, and they will happily offer you up endless tastes, served on silver demitasse spoons.
Gelato Bar is owned by Gail Silverton and her husband Joel Gutman. Gail's sister is Nancy Silverton, of La Brea Bread and Mozza fame. Dang, these chicks have got it together when it comes to killer niche food!
And while Gelato Bar has some of the most extraordinary gelato that I've ever had, it is actually more than just a gelateria, they also serve paninis and...
...and their coffee is amazing!
The beans are from Brazil and Ethiopia...but these aren't just any beans...they buy their coffee from a small roasting company out of Sonoma County, called Ecco Caffe. This company is owned by award winning Andrew Barnett, who provides premium roasts, "including Taste of the Harvest reserve, an heirloom variety from Carvalho Dias, coffee producer and owner of the Fazenda Cachoiera farm in Brazil." Ecco drip coffees are ground and manually brewed by the cup with a "pour over drip system," which delivers the freshest cup of coffee possible.
Killer combination...rich, rich coffee and amazing gelato! For a taste of Italy & Brazil, head on over to Gelato Bar in Los Feliz!
