It is that time of year again - time for Guavaween!!!! Guavaween is an annual Halloween Street Party and Music Festival that takes place on 7th Avenue & 14th Street in Ybor City! This year the party is taking place on Saturday, October 27th! There will be plenty of live music presented by 98 Rock! Bands include Skindred, Nonpoint, Hellyeah and Ankla.

There will also be an Old School Costume Contest! So wear your wildest Halloween outfit and win! The evening will start with the Guava Love-It Cooking Contest at 4pm! The Mama Guava Stumble Parade takes place at 10pm on 7th Avenue - the prize this year for the best costume is $2,000. cash!!!

So get out to Ybor City on Saturday the 27th for a fun filled evening!!!!

Ybor City is located directly next to downtown Tampa - There is an exit directly off Interstate 4 marked 'Ybor City Exit' -

For some reason the spelling of the name of the City, Ybor, looks to be perfect for a Halloween event. I hope all who attends really enjoy the time.

Would you believe I'm a native Florida and have NEVER been? We'll need to get together and go next year for sure!!!  I'll bring the corporate card....it'll be a great "business" venture, right?  ;)

Bill & Barbara-Jo - Did you go? Do you know where the name "Guavaween" comes from. I love guava, but I've never heard of this event.

Tom - while we did not get to the festival, the idea of Tampa being the Guava City started when Gavino Guiterrez came to the area in 1884. He wanted to make Tampa the commercial center for guavas. Since New York is called the Big Apple, he wanted to make Tampa the Big Guava. It did not work out, but about 20 years ago people took the 'Big Guava' part of Tampa's history to name the annual Halloween event Guavaween!!!!
