Google+ Launches TODAY!

If you've been waiting for Google+ like I have, then today is the day to login to your Google Profile account and activate the "Plus" settings associated with it. If you've already got a Gmail account, then you've probably got a Google Profile - but if not, you've got some work cut out for you setting it all up.

I signed up this morning, because I missed the private beta (invitation only, apparently, and I didn't get invited). Once I logged in, basically I got to see it integrate a Facebook-style activity stream to my existing Google profile.

What can you expect from Google+? Basically, it's Facebook. Well, it has a few advantages: for me, the big one was that I already have a ton of photos stored in Picasa web-albums, which Google let me import easily into plus.

What I didn't understand was the video option: it displays videos from Picasa, instead of from YouTube. I bet they'll probably change this in the future, unless there's some mysterious reason why Picasa videos are better (Google owns both services, so this should be an easy call for them).

In other news, I launched Def SEO a couple of days ago: I may roll Agent Press Room over to the new site as soon as I figure out what I'm doing with it. Long story short, it's built on WordPress, which I believe has officially won the CMS wars, and I'm feeling too busy these days to fight with installing Drupal. In any case, WordPress continues to evolve, and the competitors have all been rather stagnant lately.

My news isn't quite as exciting as the Google+ launch story, but take a few minutes to check out our site & let me know what you think. I like the template & may reuse it for my technology blog as well, which I've decided to rebuild because I'm a glutton for punishment.

Also, take some time to enjoy the waning sunshine while we've still got it. For many of us, we're in the last few weeks of summer, so get out & finish that tan while you still have some rays!

Hi Tim.... I have a gmail account, but have yet to set up +1! Maybe over the weekend I will go in and figure it out.  I am wondering if maybe I will like it more than FB.... which has become "kinda weird" with one or two people that want to "rule" the news feed with constant jibber about what they are doing throughout their day, taking pictures of their walks and posting them as they go along...... geeze, I thought Twitter was for that!  How offended do people get if you "unfriend" them; I am considering eliminating a few from my "list".  It would definitely be unfriendly, but I don't live in their community anymore.... and I don't accept "linkups" with people I don't "know" on LinkedIn...
