Old Charlotte Communities

Myers Park Home for Sale Charlotte NC 300x225 Discover Charlotte | Old CharlotteIf you’d like to live near Charlotte’s Uptown but, not in the direct shadow of the massive Charlotte skyscrapers, you have an incredibly wide range of options in terms of price, style and type of housing.  Encircling Charlotte’s Center City, sometimes called Charlotte’s surrounding urban neighborhoods, are some of the city’s finest historic communities.  These communities, Charlotte’s historic streetcar suburbs, are sometimes known as “Old Charlotte” and compared to most cities, “Old Charlotte” really doesn’t look “old” at all!

Myers Park and Eastover are the largest of the historic communities and boast stately homes on large lots, located on beautiful oak-canopied streets.  Dilworth, an ever-popular Charlotte community, experienced a revival during the 1980s and offers true craftsman-style homes with front porches and sidewalks that lead residents to great restaurants, unique shopping and fabulous nearby parks.

South End, located west of Dilworth, separated by South Boulevard, has recently redeveloped into a hip community, drawing people from all over the city to its restaurants, nightclubs and unique businesses.  The installation of the LYNX Blue Line which runs right through the heart of South End, brought instant revival to the area, with condos continuing to spring up along the Line.

Gorgeous spring shot of Elizabeth 300x179 Discover Charlotte | Old CharlotteSome other neighborhoods in “Old Charlotte,” each in various stages of revitalization, include Elizabeth (area around East Seventh Street), Plaza-Midwood (along Central Avenue and The Plaza, with a unique enclave of restaurants, shops, bars and galleries), Wesley Heights(northwest of Center City between W. Morehead and W. Trade Streets), Wilmore (off South Tryon Street) and Belmont (off 12th Street near Alpha Mill, Charlotte’s oldest textile mill).

Walkability in these historic communities continues to be a major attraction for those moving to the area, especially those relocating to Charlotte NC from cities like New York and Seattle.  If you’re interested in touring these historic communities, give us a call–our office is located in one of Charlotte’s most popular historic areas (Elizabeth) so, we are very familiar with these areas.  You may even learn a little Charlotte trivia along the way!

I can never stop by without telling you what an amazingly thorough job you do in local blog writing Deb. Always first class with links, photos and some soul. I point you out as a case study of how it should be done.

Hi Debe - Old Charlotte looks a lot like old Nashville, and I love them both. The mature trees and fantastic landscaping is the biggest advantage over a new neighborhood. It takes many years to look like this.

Thank you all so much for the comments!  Had a BUSY day and am just now getting over to AR!  I do love Charlotte and if you're ever here, you'll get the grand tour of all of these neighborhoods.  It's such a neat, clean and gorgeous city and you'll quickly know which area is your favorite--they're all so distinctly different but, blend together so nicely.  Melissa, I promise you won't be confused!   And, Steve, thank you so much--that really means alot!  And, reminds me that I need to contact you for someone's phone number--had a phone crash and LOST it!  I'm going insane here!  LOL

Thanks again everyone!  Hope you all have a terrific Thursday...
