This is the first night I've had reliable Internet!!!

But please don't misunderstand this to be a bad trip. It's been a GREAT trip!!!!

Last Friday morning...my mother, my 16-year old and I headed out on a 10 day road trip. We started the first night with a stop in Zion, Utah. We had hot weather through Vegas.....quickly through Vegas since I HATE Vegas, and then we got some distant thunder storms in Utah and into Zion.  The red rock stood out against the green sage and dark skies. We even spent some time with the top down to enjoy the darkness.

The next day we headed through Salt Lake City to Rock Springs, Wyoming. Really just somewhere to stop for the night to break of a very long drive. We did stop in Salt Lake long enough to see the Morman Tabernacle and the state house. Rather impressive. People think of Salt Lake City as being desolate and deserty (is that a word? arid? much better word). But it's set up against the mountains and in a lovely valley...this time of year, the surrounding hills are green with bits of yellow from the turning aspens and the forground is fields of golden, wheat colored grass.

We head over the hill past Park City and into Rock Springs, Wyoming. Not necessarily a destination :). We did manage to pack in a historical stop on the way, though. Since the reason we brought my son was the educational value, we stopped at Fort Bridger. This very crude fort was a refueling stop for the great Oregon Trail. Although it was just wood and mud even then, it was still a refuge from the winds of the plains and most emigrants picked up much needed supplies and a good night's sleep.

We are staying in Best Western Hotels because my mom is a new Rewards Member. When we made reservations I made a note that this was a special road trip celebrating my 50th birthday, my son's 16th birthday and my  mother's 75th birthday....so we've had some nice touches in our hotels. We've had upgrades to suites, and candies..in Rock Springs we got the pool view room. Sounds really nice, doesn't it? Yeah....except this was really more like a bunker instead of a hotel. The 1st floor was underground....and fed out to the indoor pool. It was dark and humid and odd.

Next post will hit the fun stuff.....keep tuned.

I can imagine a time when you either had to call someone from a pay phone, the hotel or send them a postcard to tell them how your trip was going.  Don't let the picture glitch stress you out.  Enjoy!

My son and I camped on a Barrier Island for about 8 years each summer. The worst year was when my cell phone rang. Ther is a lot to be said about getting away from it all

Hi guys...just to let you know that I'm reading the nice comments...but with very limited cell coverage and my poor Tab as well....not a lot of time to get back to you all individually. More stories to come, though. thanks
