Mona - I can imagine a family relaxing together on that porch with a tall glass of lemonade after a long days work. Simpler time, simpler life - love your photo. It tells it's own story!
Hi Patricia, thanks. This old house, a barn and a workshop are on the horse property we have listed. There are so many structures like this around here.
Hi Kristine, you know they probably worked really, really hard. Hanging on the porch is easy to visualize.
Hello Tammy, I wonder how many families lived here...could be just one!
She's a tired one Mona but ready to speak her mind to anyone sitting on that sweet front porch. If only!
I would love to know and would totally listen if those walls could talk Mona! That picture would make a beautiful piece of art - aged look, nicely framed - I can see it! Do the property owners have any knowledge about its past?
Oh, Mona, you spoke to my heart. I try not to 'link' on other people's pages, but thought this was appropriate. Obviously my heart is in the telling of the stories of houses, and if only the walls could talk . . . Talking Walls
Mona: House like this remind me of the Joyce Kilmer poem "If I had a lot of money and all my debts were paid...
I would love to bring these houses back to their original condition. I hope you find a buyer that feels the same way.
Mona, we have so many of those around this area don't we. They are such beautiful old structures built to withstand the test of time and Mother Nature. Can you just imagine the babies that were born in that house. Families that were raised and even aged grandparents that perhaps took their last breath there.
Can you smell the chicken frying and those biscuits in the oven ready for lunch after church on Sunday?
Thank you for sharing!
Hi Kevin, the front porch is attention grabbing. It is so sad to see it leaning and the post loose. I'll wait until fall and non-snake season before I go in it...if you don't hear from me by December, send help.
Andrea, no sadly the current owners have only had it for a few years. I'll bet some of the neighbors know the history though.
Hi Mimi...I love the title First House Built to Last and I really appreciate the link. I hope everyone clicks on it.
Anne, I'll need to look up that poem. I'm not familiar with it...in fact, since it's a favorite fantasy...I thought one day I'd write it! Hmmm, guess not.
Cyndi, I'm sure it's seen it's share of all of it. Sending sons off to war, children off to school and yes, I'm sure many last breaths were taken there. Chicken and biscuits sounds good, even at 7:30!
Love the old homes and the memories they hold. So much history and love behind the walls and special family moments.
Hi Mona, Yes the history of this home would be interesting to find out. Old homes like this has so much charm.
Hello Connie, I am always fascinated by any link we have to the past. I'm getting ready to work with several different parties who are looking for historical buildings. I can't wait.
Hi Will, this one must be loaded with character, but I think the "charm" has been a little bruised lol.
Thanks, Mona . . . I need to do an update on it. Struck by lightning this summer, it withstood the impact beautifully :)
Good Morning Mona - chicken and biscuits are good at ANY time of day!!! Especially the way my granny used to fry it! They just don't make it like that any more.
Hi Cyndi, it's almost midnight and I'm trying hard not to imagine what your granny's chicken used to smell like...I don't want to be hungry right now lol.
