I-Pads & Bathtubs - A Match NOT Made in Heaven!

By
Real Estate Agent with Century 21 New Millennium

I got my I-Pad last year for my birthday and I absolutely love it even though I don't use it for anything intelligent.

On Wednesday night my 6 year old son says to me "Mommy I have to tell you something and you have to promise not to yell".   As a mom, you know no good can come of that statement.

Turns out, my daughter was in the bathtub waiting for me to wash her hair and my son was hanging out in the bathroom keeping her company and watching something on the I-Pad.  She asked to see it and in turning it around it slipped out of his hand and into the bathtub.

At this point I am livid and frantic and I am absolutely yelling!

"Do you know how expensive this is?" I asked.

"More than $100" he says

"More like $500!" and then he replied "Well then how did daddy afford it in the first place?"

This is the point where I removed myself from him because I was not sure that I wasn't going to kill him.

I'm now setting up the I-Pad in rice hoping it will be ok and my daughter says I think it needs more rice.

"I'm well aware it needs more rice but if I put more rice then we will have NO dinner!"

I swear this was one of those days where I really, really wished I was a drinker because I really needed a drink.

The I-Pad is still sitting in too little rice.  It turns on but you can actually SEE the water in it.

I would appreciate your keeping my I-Pad in your thoughts.

My thoughts are with you, but you really have me laughing, too. Not at your situation,  ( I do feel bad for you ) but because I remember those days all too well...you will promise NOT to yell, right. His response about your husband being able to afford the I pad is also priceless.

Hope all goes well. Please update us.

I recently read an article that suggested you put the water damaged iPad in a sealed bag with packets of Silica gel in it.  Then store it in a dry place for at least 3 days.  I don't know if this works or not, but I did find the article very interesting.

I heard you should do this ... "If you accidentally submerge your iPad in water, immediately remove the battery. Dry with hair dryer, then submerge your iPad in rice overnight." Whatever you do, good luck.

Hi Stacey,

I feel your pain on a lesser level. My oldest daughter dropped my ipod in of all places the toilet. There is a product that Radio Shack sells that may help to dry out the moisture. Nothing worked for my ipod though. My son ended up buying me another one.

Good Luck.

Joiful!!

Debbie - You promise not to yell is not a good way to start a conversation

Kerrie - I don't drink so my choice was to rant and rave on the phone to my friend

Linda & Cynthia - I did put it in a sealed bag of rice - still waiting to see if it works

Shar - Weeping, heavy weeping was definitely considered

Rich - that does help, thanks

John - good point

Joi - Oh no, I-pod in the toilet not fun either.

Oh my gosh Stacey,  I am so glad you wrote this blog.  I heard the live version when we talked the other day and reading this made me laugh outloud again.  I can just see every minute of this conversation.  Hope you enjoyed your dinner over RICE!  I can imagine the conversation with Stefan was not quite so comical...ahhh kids!

Rich's comment made me laugh too

Another bad conversation starter...No offense but...Whatever follows will be offensive!

Hug your kids and know that this too shall pass!  All the best to you and your IPAD!!

OMG Stacey, this made me laugh, but I would be crying if this happened to my iPad!   So did it survive?  Or do you get to buy yourself a new one out of your kids' allowances/college funds/christmas budget for the next few years?
