AUTUMN + APPLES = PIE| FRIDAY FOTOS | 9/23/11

It smells like Apple Pie in my house on this First Day of Autumn!!!

North Carolina is home to many Apple Orchards...
many of them in the Western part of the state,
but we have some around Pinehurst, too!

The apples I used today are called "Arkansas Blacks"
and they are an heirloom variety from
Ken Chappell's Farm just 15 minutes outside of Pinehurst.

They are tart & dense when picked, but sweeten with age.
I mixed in a few Granny Smith's, too.

All my apples came from my produce box
which I get bi-weekly as a Member of the
Sandhills Farm to Table Cooperative
'Neighbors Feeding Neighbors'.

Hi Denise,

I can smell that pie all the way from California. I am so impressed that you made such a beautiful pie. I can make them but the crust and top never looks that good and yours are probably tastier too, Thanks for sharing your virtual pie so luckily I didn't get any calories!!

Debbie- I hope it's nothing serious!  Take care of yourself!!!  I'd send you some Chicken Soup & Pie if I thought it would make it up there in one piece.  ;-)
