Most Staging Consultations take 1 - 1 1/2 hours; as I go through the house making notes and taking pictures. I then sum up one or two primary themes, or reasons, for my Staging suggestions which I then email to the client the next day.
Sometimes, I get a little carried away when the seller is enthusiastic and already has her sleeves rolled up! I couldn't resist making over the master bedroom while I was there, with its eclectic furnishings and magnificent view of the Connecticut countryside. The seller had a mix of Old World and Country throughout the house. The trick was to give this bedroom a restful, intentional look, while streamlining and showing off its square footage.
Before: Shabby Chic bedding and red-shaded Victorian lamps lent a very feminine look to the bed.
After: We flipped the bedding! The reverse of the pink floral cover was a small pale green print on white; the coverlet went from pink roses to all-white! I found these bamboo-shaded lamps in a TV room in the finished basement. Now the bed has a more gender-neutral, British Colonial look.
Before: Wonderful paint color and gas fireplace! Although it's fab, the art is too large and taste-specific. (It's going to a lounge area off the bedroom.)
After: We moved out the chair, as well as a bookcase, and a tall glass cabinet. I centered the chest under the window. The scrubbed pine finish matches the bench on the other side of the fireplace and some pieces in the en suite bathroom.
After: What's that, you say? Julie put a mirror over a mantel?
Yes - for two very good reasons. 1. There was no good art alternative. 2. It reflects a valuable architectural detail: the tray ceiling!
