Home Stager with Nestings: Connecticut Home Staging and Model Homes

Use-What-You-Have Home Staging:  Milford, Connecticut

Most Staging Consultations take 1 - 1 1/2 hours; as I go through the house making notes and taking pictures.  I then sum up one or two primary themes, or reasons, for my Staging suggestions which I then email to the client the next day.

Sometimes, I get a little carried away when the seller is enthusiastic and already has her sleeves rolled up!  I couldn't resist making over the master bedroom while I was there, with its eclectic furnishings and magnificent view of the Connecticut countryside.  The seller had a mix of Old World and Country throughout the house.  The trick was to give this bedroom a restful, intentional look, while streamlining and showing off its square footage.

Before:  Shabby Chic bedding and red-shaded Victorian lamps lent a very feminine look to the bed.

After:  We flipped the bedding!  The reverse of the pink floral cover was a small pale green print on white; the coverlet went from pink roses to all-white!  I found these bamboo-shaded lamps in a TV room in the finished basement.  Now the bed has a more gender-neutral, British Colonial look.

Before:  Wonderful paint color and gas fireplace!  Although it's fab, the art is too large and taste-specific.  (It's going to a lounge area off the bedroom.)

After:  We moved out the chair, as well as a bookcase, and a tall glass cabinet.  I centered the chest under the window.  The scrubbed pine finish matches the bench on the other side of the fireplace and some pieces in the en suite bathroom.

After:  What's that, you say?  Julie put a mirror over a mantel?

Yes - for two very good reasons.  1.  There was no good art alternative.  2.  It reflects a valuable architectural detail:  the tray ceiling!

Julia, good job here!  I'm impressed.  This is my specialty too and, prior to the changes, it's hard for homeowners to believe little changes will make such a difference.  Post-change, they are always awed believers!

I always recommend a stagger for homeowners if they want to sell their homes quickly and for the highest price in the market. Good post, economical and illustrating that less is more.

Looks good. To be able to do things like this for people with a limited budget can only help your business. Word of mouth works well.

You did well working with what they had.  I believe for a home stager this is where a great home stager shines.  Well done.

Thank you for a very good post.  I think cost scares people off of staging.  It is nice that you can help people work with what they have.

Julie -- "Using what you have" home staging can be challenging, but with help from a professional stager, homeowners will be pleasantly surprised with the magic that can be created using their own things, but in different ways.  A consultation is cost-effective and usually includes ideas for any small purchases that are recommended.  Congrats on the feature!!

Well, thanks, Bob!

Wendy - It's actually fun to see things come together like this!

Kathy S. & Karen:  Most Staging projects are like this - very inexpensive, with  priceless results.

Thank you, Sylvie & Leah!

Gene:  "Cost" is relative - and there's a huge sliding scale.  Not every Staging project involves renting a whole house of furniture!!!

Thank you, Maureen - You should see all the roosters we took out of the kitchen!

Cathy - I love doing projects like this!
