He just sat there with a steady stare. It was almost eerie, no blinking, no moment, nothing. I had plenty of time to go get a camera that could zoom in, he was a about a hundred yards away. I snapped off several photos before it was too late.

What do you mean “Too late”?

He swooped down and grabbed what looked like a field mouse. Then he was gone!

Yes, there's nothing quite like a true hawk (not just hawk-like) stare.

This is heck of a picture. It almost is like a Real Estate agent waiting for a Short Sale approval from a Bank. This is a very, very picture.

He does look big here Steve, but I think he was fluffing up while perched on the limb.

Notice the focus on the bird when hunting.  I think we need to get some of that quality.

Nice being in the right place at the right time. Photos are grand when that happens. Beautiful bird.

That's a great camera and lens that you're working with to get this shot.  100 yards is probably as close as you could get before you'd lose your subject.

Tom - When I see photos like that, I have to wonder what it would be like to be inside that hawk's head.  Just long enough to experience his thought pattern from his perspective.  I think it would be really interesting, don't you!

Or maybe just looked down and wondered if he wanted to pull a hamstring or not.  Great picture!

Keeping a steady hand was the hardest part Doug. Take a dozen pictures, delete most.

"I see lunch, I see lunch, I see lunch..." Just kidding Myrl. I'm not sure if they think much at all about surviving. Who knows.

Only the 40 year old birds "pull a hammy" Chris.
