Bed Bugs Bed Bugs, Whatcha Gonna Do?

...Whatcha gonna do when they come for youuuuu???

Ok, I saw something in one of this week's local papers, and I just thought it was too cool NOT to share with you.  It starts out asking the question, "How can a dog protect you and your family from bedbugs?"  Well, I have a moose of a dog, and he'd probably be willing to let bedbugs share the bed with him, as long as they just nibble and don't wake him.  (Not that anything smaller than a Mack TRUCK would wake him...)

Now bed bugs WERE a thing of the past, back to the 40's and 50's.  My mom told me stories years ago that the neighbors had to blowtorch the bedframes to kill them.  And given what we know about how they can infest the woodwork, well, I dunno.  But regardless, THEY'RE BAAAAAAAAAAACK.....

This article was a real eye opener.  You can bring bedbugs home from ANYWHERE, hotels, gyms, schools, movie theaters, even the homes we show.  They act like a flea, and a roach at the same time.  They hide all day in clusters, in small dark cracks and crevices, so you won't see them.  They come out at nite to play, errrr, I mean eat.  Literally, while you're asleep, they feed on your blood.  According to the article, 70% of people that get bitten have no marks or reactions, so you can go months without knowing they're there, by which time you have a full blown infestation, into the thousands.  (Brings a whole new meaning to the term "bite me....")  Like roaches, they will go into alarm clocks, electrical outlets, etc., to stay hidden until it's too late.

So here's the deal.  This company, "Sleep Tight Inspections LLC" (remember?  sleep tight, don't let the bedbugs bite???) has trained bed bug dogs to do canine bed bug inspections.  Why use dogs instead of humans?  Well, humans can miss them.  And, a human inspection can take 30 minutes or more.  AND they may not see them until the problem is full blown.  A bed bug dog will find them within less than 5 minutes.  The dogs have a 95-98% accuracy rate.  They can find precisely where they are to make target treatment easier.  Thus, after treatment is completed, the dog can ensure that all bugs have been eliminated.  Now THAT, my friends, is Man's Best Friend!  Anyway, I just think this company deserves mention.  Their website is http://www.sleeptightinspections.com.  They can be reached at (732)701-3324, or toll free (877)843-3558.  Check them out, they even have 24 hour emergency service. (!!!)  Not sure how many locations they may have, but you never know....

Yikes, I have not had the pleasure of having or getting near the bedbug.  Glad to know someone is working on how to take care of them.

Christine:  If Deb sent you a message via Active Rain... you should be able to send an email back to her by just hitting the reply button in her email.  When you send an email via Active Rain... that is only there to keep YOUR email address, and that of the person you are sending it to... private.

So... if you went to Deb's Active Rain profile, and clicked on her "email" link... you can send an email to her via Active Rain.  But, when it gets to her... it shows YOUR normal return email address only to her.  So, from that time on... it can be between the two of you just using your regular email addresses.  It is very late, here in Fort Worth... so I hope this makes some sense.  Take care...

AND... another great post.  Woman, you are really just cranking them out tonight.  I think you're going to be a fabulous addition to Active Rain.  Again... I am so glad you have joined.   "suggested"

By the way... just a hint, here... if before you submit each of your posts... you click on the "channel" button, and use one of the Active Rain "channels" for each of your posts... in addition to all the other stuff... the submitting to the five Groups and all... you can gain an addition 25 points for each post you submit.  Just a suggestion from a former teacher.  Take care...

Now that's the one where you pick realtors, consumers, etc., or where you have to pick a keyword for a channel?  Man, this gets confoozing...  :0)~

The channel thingie can be seen when you are writing your post... before you submit it.  Way down at the bottom... just above the box you click to choose the Groups you include the post in... you will see a bo right above it... the "channel" box.  Click it, and it opens to say "Active Rain" as they default channel... which you can use until it makes more sense to you.  Then, type in a topic in the box right below the channel box that says "Active Rain"... and then move on the selecting the Groups you include the post in.

Then, when you hit "submit post"... at the bottom, right next to the tabs that are listed... you will see the Active Rain channel and topic you selected.  An easy 25 points.

I have written perhaps forty tutorials for this kind of Active Rain stuff.  Former teacher strikes again... and again...

Not to worry about being confoozed.  That is normal around here... <dorky smile>

Hi Christine,

Bed bugs is a serious issue so this is a very important post.  Our daughter had them in an apartment years ago and it cost her big time.  Not only in dry cleaning costs but she had to go to the doctor for an infected bite.  It was just horrible.  Needless to say she was out of that place lickety split!

Lisa & Robert, I couldn't even imagine, until a few weeks ago when a friend had a pipe burst in her home, and she and her family had to stay at a motel;  They had to take 2 rooms, her daughter woke up, and she was COVERED in bites from head to toe, literally, as was her sister!  The clothes had to be treated, EVERYTHING had to be treated, it was awful!

Louise, thank you!  Deb is awesome, and I'm already hooked on AR, lol!

Christine, Jeepers!  Did this company, that you recommended, offer ways to prevent them from infestation?
