Real Estate is Just Like Dating

If you have a home to sell or lease think about you first date.

If you were the driver do you remember washing your car? I bet you washed it inside and out.

Remember getting all cleaned up?

Remember trying on several outfits to see which one looks the best on you?

Remember fixing your hair?

Remember a little splash of something to make you smell good?

You did all that to make a good first impression, right?

Why did you worry about making a good first impression? I know, you wanted them to like you and you knew you were not the only fish in the sea.

Now think about somebody walking up to your house for the first time.

Is it clean?

Does it smell good?

Is the grass cut?

Is it nicely decorated?

Is everything in good repair?

How is the paint job?

You know that you do not have the only home for sale or lease, right?

This is your one and only shot at making a first impression with that person.

What is it going to be?

Alan - great post; simple, to the point, and probably poignant enough for everyone to remember!

Alan - I wonder where this was going when I saw the title!  This is a cute way of saying something very important - "sellers must be sure that their homes make a good first impression".

Thanks for the comments. I see so many homes that make a terrible first impression.

P.S. I did have hair to comb when I went out on the first date with my wife over 26 years ago. It was combed and my truck was clean.

Hello Alan,

that is a great post. And yet, still some people don't realize how important it is...

Have a great day!

If people wood just look at selling or leasing this way they would be so much better off.

Can you imagine showing up for a first date and saying sorry I know I am dirty, my clothes are torn and I stink but I look really good cleaned up? Sorry about the car being so dirty, I have been really busy the last six months and have not had time to wash it and I was so busy I did not have time to shower before I came over.

Alan ~ thanks to the link to your post.  We must be in different circles.  This is great, kind of like mine, but yours is on the first date and getting ready to sell.  And mine is on the InterNet dating!  We do think alike!
