A Fun thing to Do in New Port Richey Florida is to Visit J.B. Starkey Wilderness Park. Starkey Park is 8,000 Acres of Pristine preserved Florida Wilderness. The Park has a 6.7 Mile Bike Trail Which connects to the 47 Mile Suncoast Trail for the Biking Enthusiast. Please remember when visiting the bike trail that there are no water stations along the trail. Please bring enough water to stay hydrated while on the trail. Wildlife you may see along the trail include Roosters, Peacocks, turtles, chipmunks, squirrels, deer and a wide variety of birds.
The Park is Open from 6am to Sunset. with the sun setting at 8pm in the summer months the park is very active with people rollerblading, walking and biking after work. Since the park is 8,000 Acres you hardly notice how many people are really there. The park offers covered pavilions with bar-b-ques that you Can rent for birthday parties or office events. The Children's Playground area has a lot of jungle gym toys, a play log cabin, swing set and a large open field for playing games.
Hey Parents..Notice The Shady Areas?? They were nice enougt to put the benches in the shaded areas for the Dad's and Mom's To Sit on. Im an Uncle...so we dont get to sit. Uncles have to play with the kids, its our job. :) We pack a Lunch and drinks and snacks and hit the park whenever we can.
The day I took these pictures we only saw a few turtles. I have been to the park in the morning and have seen the Rooster and the Peacock. If you want to see amazing peacocks you have to visit Weeki Wachee Springs and see the Live Mermaid Show. But that is a blog for another Day.
