Ask a man to describe how he would put together (design) a kitchen and expect adjectives like modern, sleek, bold, minimalist. And expect, too the mention of implements—sharp knives, standalone stainless steel mincers, and big, big energy efficient subzero refrigerators.
That Man’s kitchen wish list also includes:
a) plenty of storage,
b) nicely situated prep areas
c) space for guests and family to mingle
d) high-end, energy-efficient appliances,
e) gas cooktops
But what about the appearance and layout of the kitchen—The overall design?
Will it be streamlined and outfitted with brilliant red lacquer cabinets, tons of stainless steel with windows that look out on the golf course?
(I can think of a kitchen like that right here in Asheville...see photo)
Or would this design lean toward guys “looking attractive” while the women-folk chop and bake?
Sometimes (see photo) men seem inclined to sit around the kitchen table as Myrl cooks up Drunken Peaches .... . But Elmar Duffner, managing director of Poggenpohl, will tell you that today’s man is much more in touch with his inner guy when it comes to excellence in kitchen design..
Duffner explains it this way: "In recent years, kitchens have turned into event and representation areas frequently equipped with audio systems. Says Duffner, “ Our cooperation with Porsche Design enabled us to design a kitchen whose sleek and functional design language specifically addresses male customers."
There is the handle-free design (“a gentle touch of the finger causes pull-out elements and drawers to open as if by magic.”) . And then there is innovative appliance operation –(“sensor keys instead of buttons, with user-friendly dialogue displays.” AHA! It’s Red Hot & Green and Masculine!... "… a modular, spacious and extremely versatile energy efficient and eco-friendly system … Poqqenpohl believes men will feel is a stunning design concept.”
