Coyotes in Campbell? Although it sounds unlikely, neighbors living on a small cul-de-sac in Campbell awoke at 5 am Saturday morning to an unpleasant surprise.
Three coyotes had attacked a neighbor's cat and were chasing it down. Quick action resulted in the coyotes being scared off and the cat hurried to the vet for treatment of injuries.
This incident occurred in a Santa Clara County residential neighborhood of Campbell homes, located near Los Gatos El Camino Hospital in Los Gatos and Capri and Village Elementary Schools in Campbell. It is considered part of the Los Gatos Vasona Station and Rinconada areas, as well as the San Tomas Aquino neighborhood.
This Silicon Valley community retains a rural feel that Campbell homeowners and Los Gatos residents generally appreciate and enjoy. However, coyote sightings are rare. One Campbell resident claimed this is the first time he's heard of coyotes in the neighborhood in 20 years of living there.
People living in Campbell homes and Los Gatos properties are advised to keep their pets in at night and leashed when walking for safety.
Coyote sightings should be reported to local animal control officials.
