The residents of the North Country travel through this highway pass every day and think nothing of the the spectacular views we take for granted. I guess I'm still a flat lander having grown up in Sudbury Massachusetts.
At the start of the Notch Parkway the view to your right is Mount Liberty ,Little Haystack, and Mount Flume.
The colors are coming on wonderfully and the view of Mount Lafayette - several hiking trails start from convenient parking areas on both sides of the park way (including a underpass for hikers to safely pass under the highway).
The Back side of the Cannon Mountain ski area is a sheer stone wall...a rock climbers paradise and the former home to the "Famous Old Man of the Mountain" Enjoy your ride through the notch. I do several times a week.
At the north End of the Franconia Notch State Park is a very easy climb called Artist bluff...the view south looks over Echo Lake and the slopes of the Cannon Mountain ski area. On the opposite side of the Notch is the Mount Lafayette - Lincoln to Little Haystack trail...that is an all day hike for very fit and experienced hikers.
The Above Photo wasn't taken this weekend...as you can see in the other shots we have more color than this.
