Do You Really NEED Google Plus For Your Business? Yes, But Probably Not For Reason You Think

Facebook vs Google+I recently posted this as my status on Facebook: "Dear Facebook: You are to social media what Google is to search engines. Google has tried twice (and failed) to cut into your social media market share with Buzz and Wave. Now it's Google Plus. Google Plus is not a superior service, but with all your unnecessary, fear-based and aggravating changes in recent months you just might make Google Plus superior on your own. Stop panicking, for crying out loud and leave a good thing be for a while."

Yes, Facebook has made quite a few changes over the past months...many of them unnecessary. But that's what fear and panic will do for you. Panic and fear distort your ability to determine what is really necessary when making changes to your product or service.   In Facebook's case, they're panicking a bit because it's Google. And Google will probably keep on trying until they hit on something that's successful.

What's interesting, though, is the fact that in this scenario Google has a lot in common with Bing in the search engine scenario. Will Bing ever overtake Google in the search engine market? Probably not. But there's room for Bing to have a reasonable market share, build their own following and maintain a level of success. Google is basically the Bing of the social media market.

Is Google Plus (Google+) necessary for your business and Internet marketing efforts?  Yes.  Click here to read my full post and find out why, including direct comparisons.

Mark,

Yup! By the way, I don't really believe in Facebook for my business either. I consider it a Great Time Waster, although I do have a profile, but its for simple presence only.

My husband made a joke the other day.  I want my Facebook to show me Facebook and then I want to see more Facebooks.  It's starting to look like the stock market with all the darn windows everywhere.

I agree that Google+ will never take the place of Facebook.  I do however believe that social media is a great source of leads and its necessary to belong to all the major sites.  However, I spend most of my time where people are, and right now that is Facebook and not Google plus.  That could change, probably won't unless Google just throws a ton of money at Mark Zuckerburg and buys it from him.  Stranger things could happen.  In the mean time, I have a profile on Google Plus and thats about it.  I spend my social media marketing time where most of the people are and thats on Facebook
