Hump? What hump?

This is a very interesting article I read today here on line.  I thought it was good enough to share with others, so I am using this handy dandy re blog feature to repost it for others to enjoy as well!

I have another confession to make.  I'm a big Mel Brooks fan.  I love clever humor.  Brooks was a master of clever humor.  He packed so many great one-liners in his movies that most people I know can immediately respond to a line with a following line.  OK, I'm a nerd.  I admit it.

In the movie, Young Frankenstein, Dr. Frankenstein's (Gene Wilder) assistant, Igor (Marty Feldman), has a hump on his back.  At one point the doctor notices that the hump is on the opposite side of Igor's back.  Pointing to the hump, he asks him, "Didn't you, didn't you used to have that on the other side?"

Igor responds, "What?"  Hump, what hump?  The good doctor gives up and moves on.  I love that movie.  I've seen it more times than I can remember, and I still laugh every time.  Did I mention that I'm a nerd?

Igor's hump is a lot like our real estate market.  One week, DSNews tells us that home sales are up, and the next week Inman News or Clear Capital says they're down.  Mortgage News Daily gives an upbeat report followed by a Yahoo Finance report that knocks the wind out of your sales.

And, the reality is, we need to move on like Dr. Frankenstein.  Keep working at what works.  Keep focused on the basics that produce results.  Stay focused on important data, and ignore things that won't impact your immediate market.  A drop in interests rates affects you.  The number of foreclosures in California doesn't have a major impact on you if you live in North Carolina or Michigan.

Being aware of the national market is good, but all real estate is local.  What is happening in your market may or may not be happening in another market.  During these rough times, stick with what works.  Don't get distracted by the moving hump.
