AVDA's 12th Annual Race for the Hope in Delray Beach is Saturday October 15, 2011 in Anchor Park! hope to see you there.
AVDA, Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse, provides Palm Beach County with emergency shelter, support, a 24 hour hotline and other programs for victims of domestic abuse. Formed in 1985, AVDA grew from providing emergency shelter to offering a transitional living facility where victims can live for up to 2 years.
There are educational programs not only for the community but for professionals in the area to address how to recognize victims and how to be of help to them. Internet safety as well as personal safely information are also available.
FACTS: * Every 9 seconds in the U.S. a woman is beaten or abused.
* Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women.
* Every day in the U.S. more 3 women are murdered by their husbands or boyfriends.
* Domestic violence victims loss 8 million days of paid work per year in the U.S. ... equal to 32,000 full time jobs.
The event will be held at Anchor Park on A1A. Registration is at 6:30! Events are 5K walk or Run, 10KRun, Fun Mile and Kids K. Adult races begin at 7:30 and the Kids K at 9. For more information you can download a brochure. There are entry fees, ranging from $15-$35. The race will take you along the beach... how can you loose!!
You can pre-register online through October 14 or in-store at Avenue Pilates. And, it doesn't end with the race. There will be free food, entertainment, kid friendly activities and raffles.
