It's Time to Evaluate Your Database

Databasing has become big talk again, so how does yours measure up?  Do you only use a database when it is the "big thing to do"?  Every sales person's longterm sucess depends on their database.

Evaluating Your Database

Can you honestly agree with each of the statements below:

  • I have ONE master, complete database of all clients and potential clients
  • I have a complete database of all referral partners
  • I stay in contact with ALL my clients/potential clients and referral partners monthly
  • I mine my database for new business and referrals
  • I can instantly pull up all my notes and information on each contact
  • I personally manage my database

So how did you do?  Can you agree with all or most of the above statements? If not why?

No matter what your business your database is the foundation.  Every person you come in contact with is a potential client and if not them someone they know is.  It is critical to have all your contacts in one easy to access place so you are not searching through file cabinets, email systems, your cell phone, etc. trying to find out what you "know" about them.

Keeping up the database is a big chore, I hate to do it, but I love the results I get when I am able to utilize it, good post.

Thank you for your comments!

Sonja, I am glad I could remind you to stay in touch with your base more often.  It is one of those things we all know we need to do, but forget when dealing with the day to day.

Mary, it is a lot of work to keep up a database and actual mine it regularly.  The more we can stay in fornt of our contact the better our results should be.

David, thank you for reading.  I see the largest struggle with the Agents and Loan Originators I work with to be in databasing.  I have to even keep a sticky note on my computer screen to remind me to take the time every day and enter my new contacts into my database.  It is a chore, but it is also well worth the few minutes of time.  Staying visible to your connections will pay off especially with persistence.
