There have been many phonecalls lately for lead-based paint inspection here in Nassau and Suffolk counties, and people are becoming more knowledgable with regards to inspection for lead-based paint when they are purchasing or renovating.
Lead safe work practices are being enforced through the state, and I have been getting more and more calls for lead paint testing and inspection for homeowners who just want to know, and for contractors as well.
I came across a seller who had recently used a power sander on old painted wood that was flaking, and he caused a dust storm in his house, and threathened the health of his child as he was ignorant about lead based paint and the associated health risks.
The house in Patchogue NY was very old and had the original wood sash windows with the wall weights, and they were quite deteriorated (see picture).
I warned the seller about the hazards, and was on my way. I hope he listened.
When needing an inspection for lead based paint, you MUST BE EPA CERTIFIED! Yes - the government must issue you a certification.
Many inspectors offer lead paint inspection and they do not have the certification. If the inspector shows up with those paint sticks resembling small cigarettes, they are not certified as this is not a valid test for lead in paint. Meticulous Home Inspection Corp. does have this important certification, and we are available 7 days a week.
So don't be ridiculous, call Meticulous!
