When Larry Bettag of Illlinois offered all ActiveRain members a chance to enter a contest, I had to think about the National Association of REALTORS© Code of Conduct and reflect on my own Best Practices for business. Breaking through the complexities of the housing crises, and the financial woes that has plagued the nation, for me, there is only one correct way to conduct business.
The best practice that I’d like to share with you that can result in success is helping clients through the process of assessing and developing a plan to purchase Real Estate. Successful transactions are made up of individually successful people who do the right thing at the right time under the right circumstances. With the help of a lender who creates a clear direction, we work together to develop a vision for successful home ownership. We share the goal of staying focused on the client’s needs and practice sound business management.
By staying focused on the buyer’s needs, fostering teamwork with other on the TEAM, the Lender, Home Inspector, Appraiser, and anyone else involved in the purchase of real property, success can be achieved. No two transactions are the same. That is why patience is the underlying key to success. Some transactions were not meant to be, and when our challenges become greater, we need to recognize what is best for the individuals, and not our own individual goals. That is why staying true to who you are, by maintaining strong moral values, and making sure everyone on board is doing the right thing, you can help your clients get through the tough times. After all, purchasing a home is naturally stressful.
Centering on client’s needs is the cornerstone of business success. Staying focused means listening without interrupting, clarifying when there are misunderstandings, delivering on your commitments, treating all people fairly, including the tools of our trade with respect, especially when things don’t go right. Fully explain factual information that pertains to the business transaction to the individuals that need to know, keep confidentiality, and always communicate your commitment to the highest standards of execllence.
Maintaining strong principles takes courage, and determination to experience the fear, and not let it get the best of you or impact those around you. When others depend on you, you can’t let your emotions shatter their hopes or dreams.
What I’ve learned, is that home ownership is a monetary reward, and a materialistic pleasure that is nice to have, when the circumstances are right; however, it doesn’t mean failure if the transaction is not approved.
Home ownership takes planning, commitment, honesty, effective communication, organization, and patience. Putting it all together requires skills that require specific actions that command ethical behavior on everyone’s part. That is what’s paramount to successful home ownership, whether it happens now, or in the future. When everything is in alignment, and everyone works together to do the right thing, for all the right reasons, then everyone can sleep peacefully.
