Be Good At What You Do...

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Southern Shores

We are good REALTORS® here in Myrtle Beach.   We are not cocky or arrogant, but we are confident.  We know we are good REALTORS®.  How about you?  Are you good at what you do?  The reason I ask this is because of a recent visit to our local Waffle House.  Yes, you read that correctly, The Waffle House!  If you have never been to The Waffle House on a Friday or Saturday night after midnight, you owe it to yourself to visit (if there are Waffle Houses in your area).
Talent comes in all forms.  It takes talent to do what the cook and servers do at The Waffle House.  To watch them when they are really busy is amazing.  The server will call out the order to the cook, and he/she will prepare it usually while hearing the orders only once.  This is amazing and fun to watch during their busy times.
It doesn't matter what it is that you do.  Just be good at whatever it is you do.  Nobody is good at everything.  I am a good REALTOR®, but I can't tell you much about repairing a car.  But a talented mechanic is fun to watch and listen to.  I don't know how to lay bricks, but try watching a good brick-layer.  It is fascinating.  I don't know how to hang and install sheetrock, but I love watching the folks that do know how.  I don't know much about woodworking, but I do know people that are woodworkers.  Trust me, they are very talented.

My point is this.  We all can't do the same things.  But we can all be good at what we do.  There are lots of talented people here on ActiveRain.  I know this because we have built relationships with a lot of them.  There are talented agents, mortgage professionals, inspectors, attorneys (yes, there are talented attorneys), home stagers, assistants; the list goes on and on.

Take pride in what you do.  Showcase your talents.  Do what it is that you do, and do it well.

We are good REALTORS®.  What are you?

Richard,
Thanks for taking time to stop by and comment.  We really appreciate it!  Just a reminder that we can't all be good at the same things, but we can all be good at something.

Hi, David & Kristin! What a great post! (I know I say that whenever I comment on your posts, but it's true!)

And it's a great analogy - those short order cooks at the Waffle House are AMAZING! I could never, ever in a million years remember all those orders and be that quick.

I recently sat at the pizza bar of a trendy Midtown restaurant here called Baroanda. It was a Thursday night...busy. It is also 1 block from The Fabulous Fox theatre, and it was a theatre night. They must have 20 or 30 different gourmet pizzas on their menu, and it's their most popular item. Seeing the two pizza chefs making so many varieties of pizza without menus or any kind of cheat sheet just amazed me. How do they remember them all?

I feel I'm good at what I do, but I could never be good at what they do. Never.

Great post!

Maura,
Thanks for stopping by!  You're right..they are amazing, and it is fascinating to watch.  That's why there are so many people with different talents.  I can do what I am supposed to do, but there is no way I could do what they do.
