My alma mater, the University of Missouri – Kansas City is celebrating Homecoming!

October 1, 2011 is UMKC’s Homecoming Celebration!

Our community is involved like never before. Have you ever seen yard signsUMKC Homecoming - 2011 promoting a university’s homecoming? I haven’t seen this in our Kansas City metro area community – until now. I even have a sign in my front yard! I want to make sure my neighbors know that UMKC is not only an important part of the overall community (educating many of us), but really wants them to be involved with them by coming back to campus and celebrating!

I love my school and that they are so inclusive and are presenting a day of fun bringing us together – again. A few weeks ago, I ran into an old friend from the “olden days” who, during our years as students on campus, started what we called UMKC’s “Tip Off Celebration”. This was our new homecoming event (around basketball since we didn’t have football). I remember what fun it was to be involved with this great institution that provided the foundation for me as an adult. How we wanted to bring people together – the current students as well as ones who had ventured out into the real world and wanted a connection back to where we began for us.

So today, how do we appreciate and celebrate that? Once a year we join together on campus – and go home. The place where it all started. Will you be a part of the UMKC Homecoming Celebration? October 1, 2011.

From an art gallery tour, soccer clinics, “Block” Party, a charity walk, and Alumni Social at the Chancellor’s (Leo Morton) home – there’s a full schedule of things to do – ending the evening with the men’s soccer game.

Once a Kangaroo, always a Kangaroo!
