Best Hot Dog in the Desert: Bobby's Coney Island Dog!

By

This family-run eatery, on Highway 111 in La Quinta, across from the"other best hot dog" at Costco. It has been open a little more than a week and today at lunch it was packed!  The owners are from the Detroit area-- and also carry some Greek items and other Detroit area favorites.

Bobby's is open for breakfast and lunch-- with egg dishes in the morning-- but the reason to come here is the Coney Island style HOT DOG!

I ordered the special dog with "grilled onions" (3.99) ... and my husband (Bobby) had the Coney Island Special ($4.79)  Both came with the thick, rich and meaty chili-- with just enough heat.  His also had fresh onions and ground meat with a little mustard.  These grilled, slightly charred dogs have that great "snap" and they are a little skinnier around the girth than most ball-park dogs, but extremely flavorful and satisfying!

If you are in the mood for an authentic Coney Island style HOT DOG... Bobby's Restaurant in La Quinta is the lace!

So funny, I was wondering if food would be involved today. I made chili last night so we're having chili dogs with leftovers tonight.  If not home made, then this looks like a great place to eat one out!

Hot dogs used to be a staple of my daily diet, but when I moved to San Diego in April 1993, my whole life changed. I think I might have had two, maybe three, hot dogs since then, each time covered with sauerkraut and ketchup, just like back home in Texas.
