Denver Metro Area Expects Job Growth in 4th Quarter

Job GrowthIf you live in the Denver Metro area and are searching for a job, you have a better shot of success than many in the country.  The Manpower Outlook Survey shows that employers in this area will continue to hire at a “steady pace” from October through December of 2011.

Of the companies interviewed for the survey, 16 percent will hire more employees and only 7 percent will likely reduce staff size.  About 73 percent of companies will keep staff levels current, and 4 percent don’t yet know what they will do.

For Denver residents this means a +9 percent “Net Employment Outlook,” which is the total percent of employers who plan to hire minus employers who will slow or stop their hiring activity.  The 9 percent is a bit off from the 14 percent Employment Outlook of last quarter but much better than this time last year when the Net Employment Outlook was -1 percent, according to Manpower.

The best job prospects for unemployed Denver homeowners will be in the areas of transportation and utilities, information, leisure and hospitality, non-durable goods manufacturing, education, health services, and wholesale/retail trade.  Professional, business services and government positions will decrease, while construction, manufacturing and financial roles are not expected to change.

Compared to the country overall, those living in Denver  or relocating to Denver are more likely to find jobs. Of the 18,000 employers questioned nationally, 16 percent will increase hiring in the fourth quarter while 11 percent will reduce or suspend hiring levels. A rather large 70 percent will make no changes. This all calculates out to a +7 national Net Employment Outlook, two points lower than Denver’s +9 figure.

It is still a slow turnaround, but Denver job seekers can take some comfort in knowing that their prospects are a bit better than many others throughout the U.S.
