Puyallup Microchip Campus Gets a Chance at a New Life

John Gillie at The News Tribune has done an excellent job of recounting the Microchip Technology campus' past, present, and hopeful future.

"...the city got new hope last Monday. A Seattle company bought the property, bringing the promise of a new formula to put the sophisticated, expensive cluster of buildings and its parklike surrounding acreage into productive use once again. That plan contemplates dividing the plant into several stand-alone buildings and selling or leasing them to separate high-tech companies.

That new owner, the well-known real estate firm Benaroya Cos., bought the campus with its seven buildings and 710,000 square feet of manufacturing and office space for $30 million, a big discount from Microchip Technology’s asking price of some $93 million. The company had bought the complex from Matsushita of Japan in 2000 for $80 million."

Jason, I saw your blog and got a chuckle from my past. When I was 18 I moved to a little town known as Fife and started my life as a radio DJ and the first story was from a place called Puyallup and I butchered it! The calls came in and my first day was looking like my last. I actually went on to two years at the station and learned that I'd better ask before talking about most cities in Washington.

One of several cities in Washington that gets butchered in it pronunciation.

Funny, I moved to Beaverton after college and lived there for a few years. I miss it there.
