Because Daylight Savings Time doesn't officially start in those states that observe it until NEXT Sunday morning at 2:00 AM.

Those 'helpfull' folks in Congress (the ones with the 11% public approval rating ;-)) enacted an energy bill in 2005 that included extending Daylight Saving Time by about a month.

As of 2007, DST starts the second Sunday of March and ends on the first Sunday of November.

Here's the DST schedule for the next few years in case you want to get a head start:

2007: March 11 - Nov. 4
2008: March 9 - Nov. 2
2009: March 8 - Nov. 1
2010: March 14 - Nov. 7
2011: March 13 - Nov. 6

Understand that the sun, moon, and stars still keep to their regular schedule but timewise, starting next Sunday morning, it will be dark a bit longer in your mornings and stay light a bit longer in your evenings.

You also need to make sure and change your computer's internal clocks if they don't reset themselves automatically as most do, along with some of your household electronics and clocks.

The goverment's reasoning behind DST is that you will use less energy, i.e. electricity for lighting, if you have an extra hour or so of daylight in your evenings.

Hi Jim!  Thanks for the schedule. We don't do this at all in AZ!!!! My husband, a surveyor, says we don't need an additional hour of sun in the summer!!!!

Yep, my bedside alarm clock couldn't handle it. And as far as saving energy I've heard a few say it ain't so. So much for the approval rating.

Hi Jim,

I think the reason for DST is money. More light after work so we get out and go shopping. I wonder if there has been a survey to see if we spend more money in the summer vs. winter?
