ActiveRain is Like a Kick in the Pants

Some times some of us need a kick in the pants.

Perhaps it’s procrastinating or avoiding doing something, or we simply need some sort of jump start to get with the program.

It might be using a new gadget or application, trying out new marketing strategies, saying goodbye to a particular client when things are just not working, focusing more efforts on SEO, updating our profiles, blogging more regularly…you get the idea.

ActiveRain is that kick in the pants to get us moving.

Take the plunge and get moving

There are times we need to hear something more than once before it sinks in, makes sense, and we finally act on it. Hearing that others have implemented a strategy or are making an application work for them, and how they are doing so, often leads to positive action on our part – hey, I can do that. It’s motivating, and inspiring.

Perhaps we even feel a little guilty, having said to ourselves we would do such and such, and now that it’s smack in our face we have to admit it’s time to actually implement what we know we should have already done.

While we can all learn from the many posts, tutorials, and success stories there are some AR members who are particularly adept at the proverbial kick in the pants on a variety of topics.

Brad Andersohn is one such person in particular when it comes to tech stuff. I see his most recent post 3 Things You Should Know about the New Google Search as a great example of being hit in the head with a 2 X 4. Yep, the Google search is new but his points about what this means are not really anything we haven’t heard before, just a reiteration of what we all know, but might not be doing. Hellooooo. Wake up call.

Another kicker in the pants is Katerina Gasset. If you have spent anytime at all on AR you can’t help thinking of Katerina and SEO in the same sentence, right? If you aren’t motivated to take her SEO to the Top webinar her posts on SEO will provide that much needed jolt to get you thinking about what you are not doing, and get doing it.

Lenn Harley knows a ton of stuff, and shares her knowledge, thoughts, and opinions freely. Of the many topics of which she speaks, perhaps the one that jumps out as a pants kicker is copyrights. Not a small matter, and potentially a costly one, and from the looks of what we see and hear, there are many whose pants haven’t been kicked quite enough. Lenn can do that. Check out her copyright series.

*   *   *   *   *   *   *

I could go on with other names – no doubt you have your favorites. The point is that AR provides a terrific impetus to get moving on a whole host of issues. I see that as a good thing.

There’s nothing like a little kick in the pants with the cup of coffee early in the morning.

Wayne - why thank you. But there are many others who are so much better at kicking that I. LOL

Cara - well I think it's human nature for many of us to just think about doing things we ought to do and a reminder, or a kick, is often needed. Thank goodness we have AR!

Jordon - AR does ineed stimulate thought for its members, in aces.

Steve - it is indeed. I though it made sense whan talking about "taking the plunge."

Good luck to you, Ginny. Sounds like those kicks in the pants have paid off for you. Keep focussed - we'll see you here when you have time.

Missy - YOU need a kick in the pants??? I think I should have also included YOU in the list.

Craig - that is so true for me as well, and no doubt many others. It's astounding, isn't it? The challenge is finding enough time to take advantage of all that IS here.

MIke - ha ha, yep, I recall that sign that would get stuck on the back of some poor unspecting high schooler.

Pat - I like those moments, realizing that I already do something. AR is great verification we ARE on track.

Coleen - THANK YOU for those accolades for these stars!

I am so with you Jeff! AR deserves a lot more of my time - and whoever comes here and really applies the kicks that are here will really go the distance, and maybe even fly through the air (in a good way!).

ActiveRain has been a HUGE kick in the pants for my team in 2011.  Let me count the ways!  1) video; 2) blogging regularly; 3) writing for a local paper; 4) setting up a CRM program; 5) doing a monthly newsletter; 6) blogging on multiple platforms.  2011 has been a breakout year for my team and ActiveRain has been my coach, tutorial, resource, and guide throughout the process.

Jeff,

I've learned that if I don't know how to do something or have a question, just do a search on AR and I'll find the answer. Such a great resource.

Hey Jeff - there's nothing like a good swift kick yes, but even better than that is knowing that the relationships built here on AR reach far beyond the online walls and out into the offline real world.

Thanks for the mention my friend, I don't tell you enough how much I appreciate and value our friendship.  :-)
