Love Barbershop Music? Come to Spokane This Weekend!

Spokane Convention Center, 334 W. Spokane Falls Blvd., in Spokane Washington, will be awash with four part harmony voices from the Evergreen District of Western Canada and the United States.
Calgary Chorus

Barbershop Choruses and quartets from Alberta, British Columbia, Oregon, Idaho, Washington and Montana will be judged in competition for an opportunity to participate in an international competition in Portland, Oregon in 2012.
Music coaching

Part of the weekend will have the choruses and quartets being evaluated by a panel of judges to improve their performance.

Tickets can be purchased on line by going to www.pagesofharmony.org and clicking on Evergreen District Contest.

To attend this wonderful event will only cost: $20/quartets contest on Friday, September 30; $20/chorus contest on Saturday, October 1st; $20/Show of Champions on Saturday.

Friday's Quartets will take to the stage by 5:45 and will wrap up by 10:30 pm.

Saturday's chorus competition will begin at 10 am and will end around 2 pm with awards to follow. Saturday evening will have the quartet's finals starting at 7pm with awards to follow and then the Show of Champions, all medal winners will perform at least one if not 2 songs!
Grove City Chorus

It will be a weekend full of wondrous music brought to life by the human voice! I'll be there cheering my husband and his friends on!

Kris, it's true, but this time we're on a chartered bus, so I can sleep instead of having to drive! YAY! There'll not be much singing on the way since we're leaving tonight at midnight, but on the way home it will probably be quite noisy!

Pam, too bad you live so far away, I'm sure it's more than the 12 hour drive we've got ahead of us... :D

Eric, I just came from the chorus' warmup before the competition. They were in a 3rd floor lobby, lined up by floor to ceiling windows over looking the park and river. It was lovely hearing the glorious harmony and having a beautiful day in the background.

Shar, just got home. Totally exhausted, but what a wonderful experience! So many wonderful voices! They didn't win, but there was so much to see and hear it was still worth the 14 hours (one way) in the bus! (But I think we might fly or drive next time...)

I sang in a barbershop quartet back in the 1980s, and a barbershop ensemble before that. But then my memory started failing and I had problems memorizing music. Now I just listen to it.
