The Truth About The Real Estate Market In The Greater Toronto Area

How the News Media views Real Estate

At our Recent Re/Max Sales Rally Pamela Alexander (CEO for Re/Max Ontario Atlantic) noted that in reviewing the top newspaper headlines of late September, over the last two years, they all predicted that sales were going to drop and the market was going to slow down.

But The Reality Is

Alexander pointed out how wrong they have been with the exact opposite happening, prices have continued to rise and this year is in line to be the 2nd best year in TREB's history.

The traditional news media have a mandate to increase their market share and knowing that "bad news sells" consumers are beginning to question the validity of that "news".

Informed Consumers Know the Truth

Consumers are no longer taking things at face value, they are educating themselves on the reality of the real estate market place by searching out more complete information than is often seen in the news. They are looking at the facts and figures, the statistics and information put out by a variety of real estate sources such as the monthly Market Watch that can be seen here, Greater Toronto Area Real Estate Market Information, or the Toronto Real Estate Boards monthly Market statistics that can be found on the same page or reviewed here on this blog.

I call News Poison when they disparage the Real Estate Market knowing that Real Estate is Local. Hope more and more ready,willing and ablle buyers would seek the assistance of a Local Real Estate Agent and tune out their Local News Reporters. Great post.

Maggie - when those in the industry talk more about the bad news (especially in Blog Posts) than the good news we can't blame it all on the press. Telling it like it is can be tempered by writing from the perspective of the glass is half full not half empty.

Suzanne - Smart Consumers are no longer taking things at face value, they are educating themselves on the reality of the real estate market place by searching out more complete information from more than one source and making their own educated decisions based on how the current market conditions affect their personal decisions.
