NH Real Estate Rapist Appeal Denied!!!

By
Real Estate Agent with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Verani Realty

The New Hampshire Supreme court has rejected an appeal by the man known as the “New Hampshire real estate rapist”

The traveling salesman from Maine was convicted this past May. He apparently posed as a home buyer…gained entry and then raped a 19 year old woman by knife point. This story has sent chills up spines of many real estate agents and is one anyone considering selling their home on their own should be aware of. I’m not trying to scare anyone but you should all be aware  that something like this can happen.

Read my original post about it here FSBO rapist

All I need to know is that his appeal was rejected....and all of us need to keep in mind to be safe. This isn't just for women....we are all vulnerable to robbery and the like so all of you be careful!

Thank goodness they denied his appeal! I couldn't imagine if they had let him out! It's a heads up that we all need to be more vigilant when we're showing or listing property.

Monica ~  I was glad to see he got a stiff sentence 50-100 years!  It does get a bit scary out there.  Unfortunately, it is not only the FSBO seller who is at risk.  At least this guy is going to stay in jail a long time.

Monika - This is something we all have to keep in mind.  We work with stranger so we need to use good judgement, alway making sure our emergency plans or in place.  Your advice is also one that should be heeded by FSBOS.

Moni - Thanks for this post. It is a reminder to us agents to always remain vigilent about our own safety. The buddy system is a great way to ward off potential disaster but also some self defense classes may help. Kick 'em good and hard then run and scream to attract attention.

It's refreshing to see an appeal denied for someone like this!  Hopefully he won't be out on parole in two years.

Monika, first off glad to here that this guy will remain in JAIL where he belongs.  Second as most have already mentioned before me, everyone in this Industry needs to be careful.  I for one will only meet with a female Borrower in a public place.  It is two easy for someone to accuse you of doing something inappropriate, and it comes down to your word against theirs.

Sally...I'm pretty happy it was denied. This day and age anything can happen but luckily the judge had some smarts!

Linda...We had an agent raped while showing a house a few years ago...we can never be too careful!

Joan...All of us need to be cautious. I'm glad he is staying behind bars.

Jennifer...Emergency plans are very good... we have a SOS system in place...flash a red card and that means you need help.

Judy...Maybe we should go take a self defense class!! I remember having pepper spray years ago.

Leigh...I hope your right and he stays behind bars for  agood long time.

George,..Men are just as easy a victim as women. I think your policy of not being alone is a wise one. How about them Red Sox... did you watch the game?

Monika, I hope A-Rod is on the Red Sox nest year, because he seems to be a jinx where ever he goes.  He puts up great numbers, but does not hit in the clutch, and falls apart in the play offs.  So I would be happy to give him to you guys and take Lowell in return.

Thanks Lysa!

George...I'd rather keep Lowell any day! But I'm thinking A Rod will be here.  I'd not be happy about it.  Oh well who knows what will happen.  next year will be fun!!!
