Last night, Andy Rooney, long term commentator on CBS 60 Minutes gave his last remarks. But before he did, he talked about his career, his former colleagues the pioneers in the television industry. It was a look at our country's historical events as only Andy Rooney can tell.
What I learned tonight is that Andy Rooney is 92! He has spent most of his career at CBS. Really, can anyone remember a time when Andy Rooney wasn't on 60 Minutes? I know I can't. I always appreciated his "opinion" on most topics he selected for his segments. And yes, he was right. Most of what he said, I was already thinking.
Mr. Rooney said two things tonight that truly made me stop to think. He said that as a writer he always told the truth. The second was that he was a writer, he would always be a writer and he couldn't imagine doing anything else.
His weekly comments will certainly be missed. But at 92, I guess you are entitled to retire and spend time with your children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
