Absolutely Exquisite Home for Sale - Sure You Betcha

When I hear or see the words 'Absolutely Exquisite" I expect to see a home that is just that..."Absolutely Exquisite?  Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't you expect the same thing?  Today I met several contractors at a Phoenix  home that an investor is purchasing. And low and behold as I drove up to the home I noticed a sign ryder stating 'Absolutely Exquisite".  Huh?  For some reason I didn't notice this sign ryder previously and it sure as heck is so far from the truth it's just plain silly.

The home was purchased at a good price and we all knew there were items that were needed to bring the home back up to standard.  Here's the list:

  1. New carpet
  2. New tile
  3. Painted inside & Out
  4. New appliances
  5. New light fixtures
  6. Back yard re-sodded

All in all it could total about $15 to $20K if the investor decided to go full boat and install
granite countertops to replace the outdated pink ones plus a few more big items.

Does this sound like an "Absolutely Exquisite" home to you?  No! Of course it doesn't.  What drives someone to advertise a home that is needing a lot of work to market a home in such a manner.  I honestly don't get it. I never have and never will understand why one would 'lure' people in with advertising such as this - only to find out it, in fact it clearly needs updating - big time.  I mean hello - even the carpet had huge stains right in the middle of the floor.

Now I understand this is a pet peeve of mine. I've written about it before and probably will again. I just wish agents would get a clue and describe the home honestly and truthfully.  Just do it please - pretty please with strawberries on top and maybe even chocolate!  Thanks!

Hi Anna,  That is funny.  Maybe it was the only sign ryder this agent had left and thought what the heck - I'll throw it on there.  Truth in advertising is always a controversial subject.  Hope the deal works out.

I've never understood the one liner excitement statements on sign riders anyway.

Anna:  I'm sure this home has hidden beauty and alot of possibilities for "exquisiteness"  (is that a word??), but just to look at your pic, that most certainly is not the word I would have chosen for this property.  Needs a bit more pizzazz and upgraded curb appeal for that, IMO.  Would be interested to see how exquisite it gets after the work is completed by the investor though ...

Anna, I REALLLLLY hate to say this, but my first impression of the house was That Man Who No Longer Has a Name's compound.  Yuck.
