Having an elevator speech (30 second commercial) ready.

How is your business going?  If not so good, it might be in how you are responding to an initial question from a stranger, friend or family member.  This is why it is so important to have a 30 second commercial or "elevator speech" ready.  They call these elevator speeches because that about how long you have to give a stranger a quick answer on an elevator and really that's the attention span of most of us anyway so that's all it needs to take.

Think of a great elevator speech for yourself and brighten up any time a stranger sees you wearing your badge and asks you how things are going or friend sees you downtown, etc.

Here's some ideas:

Oh, I am glad you asked, I am doing great!  The market is picking up right now with attractive home values and great interest rates and we are starting to see many folks moving in from other areas.  I just listed a home this morning and sold 2 last month.  Do you know anyone I can call that might be in the market?

Thank you for asking, I am ________ with ________ and I am doing great!  I pinch myself everyday to see if I am dreaming because I can't believe how lucky I am to be doing this well in this stage in my life.  The market is right and conditions overall have not been better for buying a house in decades.  If you know of anybody currently in the market, let me know.  Here's my card, I work when the phone rings, 7 days a week!

Hello, I am _____ with _______ over on ________ Street.  We have 30% of the market and we are doing awesome right now with the low mortgage rates and incredible deals available right now.  I am working with 2 buyers right now and I just listed my 3rd house this month!  If you are interested or know anybody in real estate right now, let me know, here's my card.

Develop your elevator speech and remember to use it the next time you greet anyone and see if your business starts taking off!

These are some great short responses to a question about your business.  It is good to have more than just a canned response for people we see often.  It is also OK to let people know we are human - nothing is great all the time, even if we sold three homes last month.

I will admit that I need to work on my elevator speech too.  I prospect in real estate offices 2-3 days a wk and try to stay positive as much as I can with a good presentation about the market and my services.
