I walked into Kroger yesterday--October 3. I was going in there for a few items for the dinner menu for the night. Walked around and was greeted by CHRISTMAS! Years ago, I worked in retail, actually in a grocery store, while going to college and it seemed every year that Christmas stuff got out on the sales floor just a little earlier... This year, it made it out by the first part of October... Is this a hope that they can get a jump on holiday spending and have a great holiday shopping season or is it just such a soft economy right now that they feel they HAVE to get it out there to move their commitments on Christmas stuff?
Hello Ron, It seems that the stores put out their Christmas stuff earlier every year. I say NO THANKS as well.
It used to be that stores would not put out their Christmass displays until after Thanksgiving. The holidays are starting to overlap. The local Costco has Haloween and Christmass stuff out at the same time. It is a bit much for my tastes.

Ron - It is a little early. I like to see the Christmas decoratons, but I won't be ready to decorate until after Thanksgiving.
I heard on the news that retailers were bracing for one of the crummiest "Christmas shopping seasons" for decades due to the economy and unemployment. So they had determined that starting "earlier" might help them diminish the effects of the expected, yet undesirable shortfall.
They are not the only store to already have out Christmas items but I AGREE it's way to early.
