Cook County (IL) tax bills were mailed as of October 1, 2011, on over 1.7 MILLION pieces of property owned within the county.  That's a staggering amount of paperwork and accounting for the Cook County Treasurer's Office to handle.Gene Mundt Chicago Bancorp blog Re: Cook County 2nd Installment Taxes Due Nov. 1st

Second installment tax payments of Cook County tax bills are due November 1, 2011 Any payments received AFTER that date, will incur a 1.5% penalty per month on unpaid balances.

The Treasurer's Office of Cook County wants to make payment of these bills as convenient and easy a process for property owners as possible.  In order to accomplish that, Cook County and the Treasurer's Office provide multiple options for payment of Cook County taxes.

Cook County taxes can be paid at/by:

  •      cookcountytreasurer.com  -  Website for convenient online payment of Cook County tax bills.  You will be asked to reference your 14-digit Property Index Number (PIN) located at the top of your tax bill.
  •      Any Chase Bank location  -  If paying at a Chase Bank location, you must have your original payment coupon in your possession.  You will be asked to produce this payment coupon upon payment.
  •      Pay by Mail  -  The original payment coupon must accompany your tax payment.  Your check must have your 14-digit Property Index Number (PIN) written on it.  To avoid late payment penalties, all tax payments must be POSTMARKED NO LATER THAN NOVEMBER 1, 2011.

Luckily for me that I live in DuPage and mine is paid already.  November would crunch Christmas spending.  I should be back in good shape by the time December rolls around.

Great information Gene.  As you know, if property owners want to do something about their current tax bill they can't.  many homeowners get the tax bill and have that "OMG" experience and want to appeal that bill.  They can't appeal the bill in their hands, but they can lay the ground-work to appeal the next one.  I suggest they call tax appeal attorney Anastasia Poulopoulo at 630-849-3419 or visit her website at www.AppealMyTaxes.Biz for more information...and for property owners (like Joe Kenny in DuPage) Anastasia handles DuPage, Lake, McHenry, Will and Lake counties too.

Joe:  As I understand it, the taxes were issued later than they should have been.  So the due date is especially painful this year.  I understand your point though.  Paying taxes themselves are bad enough.  Make it close to Christmas and it's even worse.  Thankfully ours here in Will were due in September ...

Eric:  Thanks for the thumbs-up!  And I agree, Anastasia is the one to call when hoping to protest your assessment.  I've recommended her to quite a few of my friends and clients that are looking for assistance.  In our area, she's the pro to call.  Thanks for providing her contact information ... I hope many give her a call ...
